Poor Lighting.

Featured Replies

Hi, didn't think i would be asking this question again.

Having come from an 08 Roomster, i would have thought that an 2016 car would have better lighting.

I went for HIDs on the Roomy, which i fitted about 8 years ago with no problems.

What have drivers upgraded there front lights to on this site? New bulbs etc.

If you have a standard Octavia with halogen bulbs you'll need to replace the H7, H8 & H15 bulbs with something brighter. I used Mtec Bright White 4350k bulbs on mine but beware, they cast light no further merely a brighter light. I did find some Mtec H7's that were 100w & they seemed a little longer & they didn't fry the bulb holders/wiring.

Please Note. 4,250k is the road use maximum but, I've yet to find a MOT tester or copper with anything to measure build brightness however, purple or blue lights do give the game away. Stick within the 4,000's & you should be fine

Thank you for that info.

Yes distance is fine, just need a bit brighter.

Maybe i wouldn't have noticed so much, if i hadn't come from HIDs.

Any pitfalls replacing the bulbs?

Some are a bit fiddly but an hour tops NOT knowing what you're doing probably, 20 mins once you know.

Appreciate that. :nerd:

The Kelvin rating is about the colour of the light, not the brightness.

Human perception says it looks brighter, colder, sharper whatever you call it, easier on the eyes to see

Where did you find the bit about 4250K being a limit of legality on the road?

Tbh I personally prefer yellower bulbs in the winter.

however look at the lumen output of the bulbs and bear in mind the XXX% brighter bulbs, tend to have a correspondingly shorter bulb life. Only a problem if you do big miles, but worth knowing all the same.

Phillips Extreme Vision 130% are a great balance of brighter (and whiter) lights with good life (450Hrs), I bought them for my sons Polo and they made a massive difference. As above be careful of some, for example the same Phillips, but 150% only have 150hours life! Thats not long in normal winter use, especially if you have them as dipped and main beams.

Philips Extreme or Osram Nightbreakers will impove things but still far from what I'd consider good.

Even the Xenons are not great for Xenons on the Octy.

This is an interesting video (Although American), guess who come last?

We can't measure it, we don't have any equipment that can in MOT test stations-yet.

We can can measure Lumen's but there is no legal requirement to on the MOT.

Don't fit 100 watt bulb's for you're dipped beams as they are NOT for road use, maximum allowed is 55 watts. 100 watts bulbs can run very hot and melt/fry the bulb holders and wiring.

I was talking about the 55% that claim to be brighter.

i will admit 100w h1 did make great high beams, once the wiring gauges had been checked, but that wasn’t on a mk3 octy.
