Day time running lights not working

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new to this forum. Please can someone give me some advice on an issue I've got.

I've got a 2016 plate skoda citigo monte carlo edition.

The day time running lights have been rubbish and not lasting long. I've changed the bulbs three times already this year. The front off side light had gone but the front near side was still illuminated. When I put the full beam on, both lights were on but on the dimmed setting.

I decided to change the bulb for another 21/5w and it did work for a whole hour. Then the bulb had gone like it had blown. I took it out and swapped it with the near side one to make sure it was actually the bulb. It wouldn't light up so I put the bulb back in to the near side and now the day time running lights work won't at all.

When I turn the side lights on then the front near side light comes on. I'm thinking it's a blown fuse but i don't know which one.

I've searched the internet far and wide for the correct fuse and there is nothing. The only thing I can find is fuses for the model before my car which says fuse 4 and 22. These won't be for mine as the lay out is different and fuse 4 is for the airbag. There is nothing in the manual that specifically days drl.

The handbook says numerous fuses for vehicle lighting so I can only think of replacing them all?

I have rang skoda customer services who just told me to take it in to a local retailer. I rang my local retailer who want £85 to put it on a diagnostic machine first. Needless to say I dont have that kind of cash!

If car fuses are blown, they are almost always clearly visibly blown if you look at them - they are mostly made of transparent colour-coded plastic, although some smaller sized ones may not be. Point is pulling fuses and checking does not normally need an ohmmeter. I would say fuses are blamed a bit too often for electrical problems. I'm not sure from your post whether you are saying your bulbs just keep blowing or not.

I suspect the problem is not a fuse, but may be a corroded build socket or a bad earth connection (maybe an earth strap from battery to chassis or a corroded connection). I admit this would not be common on a newish car though. It was however a common issue with the last type of vehicle I owned, and with many cars with towing electrics fitted (won't have this on a Citigo though!)
