Steering Wobble/Pulling

Featured Replies

On full steering lock left or right I'm getting the feeling of wobble/pulling through the steering wheel.

I ask the dealer who's head technician said it was normal, seems strange to me as I've never had another vehicle do this.

Anyone care to see if there kodi does the same as mine on full lock, cheers in advance.

I've heard of a sort of "snatching" or "crabbing" effect at full lock on some other cars - especially Mercedes-Benz GLC - but I don't have it on my Kodiaq.  And (as I live in a fairly narrow cul de sac) I use full lock for a full 180-degree turn at the head of the road, every time I come home.  Perhaps different tyres - or your different engine?  - might affect things?

Andy,

Not noticed anything on my one, is it on all surfaces? Original tyres?

If you need me to pop round to compare please let me know and I’ll be glad to oblige.

Hate it when they say “they all do that sir” when in fact they don’t, but they know all too well the average punter has no way of knowing- perhaps I’m just cynical?

Best regards Jason

Typo

I’ve experienced a minor snatching at the steering wheel on one occasion when turning with full right lock in a car park. The sensation was consistent with a differential winding up.

However I’ve not been able to repeat it under similar circumstances.

Yep original 19" tyres & does it on all surfaces.

It's the 2.0tsi 190 AWD I have.

Jason, if your ever close by and you have time by all means pop in and you can have a turn with it!

Let me know mate, and cheers guys for taking time out to reply Andy

I also have a Kodiaq 2.0 tsi 190 AWD although mine is on 20"s. Can't say I've felt any snatching or pulling through the steering in any position. You can expect the occasional and normal very slight kick back or shuffle through the steering on low-speed bumps (for example a car park speed bump struck at an angle rather than straight on)

When the issue your experiencing happens is it only when actually holding the the steering against the lock stops or does it happen at close to full lock as well (but not actually on the stops)?

Just against the lock stops, hence when I'm on full right/left hand lock, low speed.

I thought it was the power steering pulling back/reaching its limit but I've never experienced this in an other car I've had with power steering.

I'll gauge feed back on here and if it's not the norm then dealers I will go.

Not a great idea to hold the steering wheel against the turn stops for extended periods, apparently shortens life of power steering pump, so ease wheel back few degrees.

Seeing as it happens on full lock, is the power steering fluid bit low in reservoir, as having to circulate lots of fluid if competing with stops.

Does it happen turning both right and left, or just one direction, possibility of a slightly poor driveshaft joint, shouldn’t be clunky early in its life, if it is probably manufacturing fault, so a warranty job.

I assume not something obvious like small tyre bulge (might be on inner side) as it might not be 100% round on its shoulder, or unevenly worn tyre as tracking is off.   Perhaps swap the wheels front-back, if this sorts it, it is a rogue tyre that needs replacing.

The Kodiaq and no other recent Skoda I can think of has a power steering pump or fluid.

Anybody managed to due a full steering lock @ under 10mph & get a pulling/wobble feeling since I posted?

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say nobody else will have an issue & say my steering is faulty.... hope I'm wrong!

@AndyMorris

?

Did you ask to borrow a Demonstrator or Used car at the Dealership and see if it behaved the same?

Your OP said that the Head Tech said it is normal.

That was true, normal for a faulty build, set up and normal for Head Techs that can not be bothered to do their job properly.

I would ask that the Dealer Principal gives your car a drive ans see what the say, and just leave them with your Kodiaq and get their Top of the Range perk as a Courtesy Car until a competent technician deals wity your fault.

No obviously noticeable strange feeling through the steering on my 2018 1.4 TSI 4x4 Scout when on full lock.

Although, something (mechanical sympathy perhaps) always tells me to avoid resting the steering on the stop locks, after hitting the lock I always back the steering wheel off by a couple of degrees.

I'm off out this morning so will give it another try.

Big thank you to Jason (Greenliner1) who took time out today to come over to my home.

I tried his kodi on full lock and felt  the wobble/pulling effect was present.

My minds at rest now.

I’ve a 2.0 Tsi 5 seat and haven’t noticed this happening, the Merc I had previously would do it and they never managed to cure it.

I get something like this every day but only in the carpark in full lock just the tyre pushing out . I try not to do it on full lock . Also at the gym there a metal drainage grid and really slips on it on full lock no other option as a very tight turn into the spots
