What version are you using and what version of Android.

My phone is a Motorola G6 running Android 9.

Android Auto is on 4.7.593824

There are some options on weather you run the new version in the Android Auto app settings.

Android Auto updated for me the night before a foreign holiday.

First use was in a LHD 2019 VW polo and all worked well.

Been fine for me back at home in the Fabia III since then.

Thanks AG Falco

Works fine for me on Google Pixel 3 & 4

Works for me on a Galaxy S9 running Pie,

and I've choosen the 'new mode' in Android Auto to check it out.

Maybe try hard rebooting your stereo (hold the power button down for 10+ seconds, you won't lose any settings) and clearing the app data for android auto/reboot the phone? I work in IT, and the "turn it off and on again" adage is surprisingly accurate.

Thanks for all the replies.

My Google Play services app needed updating and it started working immediately.

I had a hammer at the ready just in case.

I have noticed that Android Auto can be a bit intermittent - particularly with the voice commands not always registering.

My approach (which always seems to work) is as follows:

1. Start the engine.

2. On the stereo, navigate to the Smartlink screen and wait for the loading process to complete.

3. Plug the phone in, wait for Android Auto to load on the stereo screen.

4. Switch the phone screen off!

I've experienced that if the phone screen is on whilst using Android Auto, voice commands may not work correctly.

Love the new design for Android Auto - next car will certainly have to have it!

Another thing to check is that the date and time are set correctly on the car, otherwise it can cause problems.
