The last wash

Featured Replies

Just been cleaning my Vrs for the last time :(

I'm taking it to a Ford dealer in the morning, and they are selling it on to the Skoda garage I bought my Furby from originally.

In return (and with a bit of extra cash) I'm driving home in a 55 plate Fiesta ST with 4000 miles on the clock :)

The Fabia has been an amazing car, it was always fun to drive. The only thing that ever went wrong with it was the heated mirror switch.

I decided it was a good time for a change, even though I'm not at all bored with the fabia it is just about to loose its warranty and need its first MOT.

I was going to fit new suspension to get the handling just how I want it, but for the amount it was gonna cost I could get a newer car!

The Ford dealer is owned by a family friend who let my keep the ST I am buying all night on Thrusday. I took it on all my favorite roads and the handling is really superb. TBH it didnt feel as quick as the fabia in places, but I think thats because I am used to driving with torque instead of revs. The engine sounds fantastic and even pops on the overrun a bit when the exhaust is warm.

Anyway here is a pic.

I will still be looking at the forum, it's the best on the net!

PS I know the fuel economy will be rubbish, don't rub it in

Welcome to the dark side! :D Bit disappointed you didn't opt for the stripes though

Chris

Cool - it's your choice so good luck with it.

Personally I would have stuck with the Skoda, Ford doesn't seem to compare with the quality feel of the Skoda (that'll be the VW/Audi parentage) but at least it's not white with the twin blue cobra stripes!

Hope you enjoy it,

Hewesy

Interesting photo - I think the Fiesta looks more fun than the Fabia!

Damn right! The Ford is leagues ahead, even down to the little details like door seals which don't leak ;)

but watch out for the MIL lamp coming on , DTCs for hego faults , but actual problem is something to do with the starter motor  but i suppose that'll be covered by the warranty , oh and they do have water leaks ,from the roof channels but not usually on the doors:thumbup:

Nice looking car there mate (fabia);)

Joking aside I really like the st it looks great, as said you have to go the whole hog and get the stripes fitted. I used to have a 1.4 zetec (same shape) and the handling was great fun, a very chuckable little motor. I can only assume that with more power the st will be fantastic.

I bet you get fed up with the petrol bills (I did when I got rid of my furby).

Enjoy:thumbup:

I'm afraid I have to say that in actual fact, the Ford build quality and plastics used put Skoda to shame, VW/Audi parentage is all well and good, but no good if they dont use the same bits!!

All our high mileage Mondeos are totally squeak and rattle free, the plastics resist scratching very well with people getting in and out constantly, dragging their heels over the sills and pushing the doors open with their feet etc, I'm saddened to say that the same cannot be said for my Superb, and in fact it's starting to look a bit tired!

just as well you didn't get focus ST as the fuel consumption on them is horrendous , between 15-18 mpg whilst there being run in

Looks good in blue, and I'm glad you didn't go for ch4v stripes :P

Have fun!

Steve

By all accounts I hear the Fiesta ST is a cracking drive

Thanks everyone!

I'm pretty excited, been trying to keep busy all day so it goes faster!

The interior isn't quite as expensive feeling as the Fabia, but then again the Fabia does have a few rattles which i hope the Fiesta won't get.

It was amazing when i started looking for a replacement for the Furby how hard it was to find something. I'd say there are only 3 or 4 cars that are similar, and one of those is the Ibiza which doesnt count. I considered the Grande Punto 1.9 130bhp but I wanted something sportier so it had to be petrol really.

There will be no stripes for me I'm afraid! I already got some ***** in Saxos racing me and that was just on the test drive.

I'll probably do a write up on the ST when i'm used to it. Anyone else on here bought one?

Wow, nice little car. And sounds like you got a great deal too.

Enjoy it mate. I'm sure you'll miss the wee Furby, but the ST is a great little car.

nice, car, just hope you don't have any reliability issues (I had three new focus's and broke two of them! [well my learners did]) A write up would be good, would be interesting to see a comparison, from the perspective of a previous furby owner!

Not if they were parked the other way around though ;)

I'd like to read a comparison from an owners' perspective too; my choice came down to the Fiesta ST vs the vRS. I've always liked the look of the Fiesta since it's launch but we decided the Fabia was the better choice for us.

On the looks front the Fiesta is miles ahead. My sister has a 52 plate 1.4 and its been faultless, excellent little car.

A colleague just commented that the Fabia's chin makes it look like Jimmy Hill.

Disagree about the looks. I prefer the 'chunky' image of the vrs that is also given off by the newer polos. From the back end the vrs looks huge as well. Makes the fiesta look weedy in comparison IMO.

Mind you, this probably goes without saying seeing as I've just purchased a new vrs as opposed to a new st.

The VRS is a phenomenal all round package that no other car can compete with IMO.

They have recently revised the front lights on the Fiesta to include little bumps over the indicators - like the current Micra. It looks a bit strange on the Fiesta.

I thought it a bit bizarre as well - as if they were trying to come up with things to change - so they could justify calling it a facelift
