ABS pump bleeding with VCDS

Featured Replies

What is the procedure to carry out when bleeding the abs pump as I don't seem to be having much success when it comes to bleeding the system. I have tried the output test on vcds but would imagine with the pump running fluid would be pushed out of the bleed nipples when open but this is not happening. Any help would be much appreciated.

Can get the pump to run and everything just never get any fluid out of either of the front bleed nipples when it's running and have done a pressurised bleed on the system and still have a spongey peddle.

Have you got air in the ABS module or just doing a regular brake bleed?

Not used VCDS for this. In process of buying and this is of interest in regular maintenance. Seen it used on Youtube for other vehicles, not Skoda. All places doing brake fluid change don't use abs module change.

I have found that even with using a pressurised brake bleed kit that pressing brake pedal (priming) several times slowly down and up with engine off and all nipples in place and brake fluid cap in place before starting helps.

When ready, caliper nipple is opened with suction from pressurised kit. I find that someone in driver's seat pressing gently down on brake pedal assists removal if any air is in the  system.

Just make sure that the nipple is opened and closed in 2s blasts. Apparently.if the brake pedal is floored beyond normal brake pedal travel the presence of crud can damage brake piston seals. Getting the pedal halfway down is my limit. Communication between driver and bleeder crucial.

It helps if the person in the driver's seat is genteel,  like a woman. Not heavy footed.

When the brake nipple is open the brake pedal faces less resistance. When nipple closed it faces more resistance.

All done with engine off.

Keep brake fluid topped up.

The trouble is, once there is air in the ABS block there's no other way to shift it unless you use a diagnostic system.

My eldest daughter is a woman and she's got a right foot like a traction engine, oof! Probably because she's a full back, works hard for a living and drives like a nutter as well as being a mum.

The days of women daintily swanning about doing a bit of light shopping before running home to wash up and cook your dinner are long gone and good riddance to 'em.

I replaced the abs module so trying to bleed the block out. I am using vcds to trigger the pump as I can hear it running but don't get fluid out when it's running. I have carried out a pressurised bleed on all 4 calipers but still the peddle feels soft and when the car is running you can pump the brakes up.

Have you been able to resolve the issue?

Okay, just come back to this thread.

I should have said genteel bloke or woman.

Rereading, I forgot to mention that if the master cylinder seal is damaged it would need replacing also.

Hi Guys, I have resolved the issue with the ABS pump body : a replacement block was need, the internals had become worn , the seals were  knackered

Cheers
