Felicia antifreeze appearing to be slightly brown again.

Featured Replies

Hello guys,
I had fully and completely flushed my cooling system last summer (approx 1.5 years ago) and had filled the car with the green ethylene glycol stuff.
Although not reccomended by skoda I think as long as I keep an eye on it nothing "bad" will happen to the engine.
Now the color of it has become a bit darker, brownish, but still the dominant colour is green.
So what do you think?
Can I wait until summer to give the car a flush again?
How long does it take your coolant to get dirty?
Do you think that this "wrong" coolant can cause head corrosion even if it's flushed often?
Last question is pretty much me hoping that I didn't damage my car...

Corrosion of ferrous parts affected the coolant. The coolant doesn't corrode the head though. The ferrous corrosion doesn't magically stop inside the system no matter how well you flushed it or what coolant you will use.

That means that head is OK if I use this coolant?

I guessed the rust came from the liners and the rad but couldn't confirm

The color is a gamble. If you want to be sure, look for "compliant with TL-VW 774 C".

Mine has a rating BS6580-2010.
Belive it or not the additive package is compatible with one and other.
What I mean is most of the BS6580-2010 antifrezees are also TL-774 C compliant.
In that sense there is much more science behind eveything.
Silicates (that are found in iat coolants) are a better yet short lived corrosion inhibitors when compared to the organic acids in the oat stuff.
Almost all cars will perform better (corrosion wise) in the short term with iat coolants.
The reasons for the switch is short life ~1 year and enviriomental reasons.
Techinical documentations are hard to come by but you still get them.
To conclude my findings.
Will the engine of a Felly be harmed by IAT coolants?
NO as long as it is changed every year before the package gets depleted.
Will OAT coolant be better?
It is worse for the metals but it is way better than depleted IAT coolant.
So yeah, I am even more confused now.

G11 can be found in Green but in Blue colour too.

Now many new guys suggest G12 but i don't think it's proper for the Felicia.
