ULEZ and Yeti 1.2 TSI DSG

Featured Replies

Hi I have just changed from a well worn (!) 2.0 diesel Superb MkII  (2010) estate to a 1.2 tsi 2016 DSG Yeti. Part of the reason, was to comply with the London ULEZ charge. My Superb was not exempt and I automatically thought the Yeti would be....my wife has a 2015 VW Beetle which is exempt and has the same running gear - 1.2 Tsi DSG petrol engine.

It transpires that my Yeti will have to pay the £12.50 a day !

Has anyone else had the same result when checking a similarly specced  Yeti?

Many thanks.

How did you arrive at that conclusion?

As far as I can tell petrol car qualification to avoid the ULEZ charge is Euro 4, which became mandatory in 2005...

Did you enter your registration number correctly?

I just checked the reg. number of a 2016 1.2 TSI petrol DSG Yeti from Autotrader...

All good, no charge...

Hi Silver/Muddyjim  - I did the same as you, got a registration from autotrader -  the same model and year - and spec - and yes, you are correct, however my Yeti received this:

YETULEZ.thumb.jpg.f2b879924bfb21b22481630bc194d20a.jpg

However I did speak to someone at ULEZ and he agreed that it was compliant and interestingly asked me if it was a 'Motorbility' car before I purchased it - which it was. This has some bearing on whether it is compliant or not - I didn't quite follow his logic. Now they want to see a copy of the V5 to establish that it is what I say it is.

Thanks for you response - I do hope they sort it out promptly!

Below is the 'one' I tried....

My previous 65 reg Fabia had the 1.2 TSI engine and DSG gearbox.  According to the TFL website, it is exempt from the ULEZ charge.  I appreciate the YETI might have different emissions but it seems odd to me what is going on here.  Hope you manage to get this sorted.

Reading the gov website about ulez charges, I reckon the reason is this; it looks to me as though a Motability car is automatically exempt from ulez until 2025 regardless of its emissions rating. If a car before then is removed from motability status, I presume the ulez exemption will have to be reassessed, in case it doesn't comply?

Re 2025.

See the bottom 3 lines here and diesels.

Hi John, have you changed the Reg No to your own number?

I swapped Yeti's in May. And put my own number on the latest Yeti.

If I type in my present number I will be charged. Old Yeti was a diesel.

Type in the original number of present Yeti and it won't be charged.

It's a 1.2 TSI, DSG.

So, I guess that TFL have not updated their records, or do not bother to check

with DVLA each time a person checks about a charge.

Hi Thingy,

Yes i did put my own plate on the Yeti. For more than 2 months after moving the plate the ULEZ check still showed the details of my old Superb!

This morning I received confirmation that the Yeti is compliant and I wont have to pay the ULEZ charge for entering the zone!

Thanks to everyone  who took time to comment and offer advice/information, everyone has been most helpful.

The TfL database is rubbish.

There is a local coach company that bought a euroVI diesel, put a private plate on, got fined, showed TfL the relevant docs, were accepted at appeal that TfL had old info, then got fined again 3 times because the appeal info wasn't used to update its database info

How it is permitted to knowingly hold wrong data (where is information commissioner ?) is shambolic

Seems they assume non compliant unless told otherwise, and don't bother to check with DVLA
