Sat Nav Maps 2019 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi there, newbie so still a bit green, I've just been on the Update Portal to look if there any new maps for my car.  ON the Info screen it says I have ECE AS 19/20 currently on my car, unfortunately ECE AS does not appear in the choice of available downloads for my VIN.  There only appears to be ECE 1 to 7 and ECE A1. Which is for my car?

The card is a 32gb sd so can take any map.

The ECE A1 2020 map is definitely the correct one for you. It is equivalent to your previous map and is a Skoda rebrand of the identical VW EU AS 2020 map.

Fantastic, thanks for that.

Time for a download tonight!!

My car has 16gb nav SD, is it possible to install 13gb 2020 map on it because it is noted that it is only for 32gb SD?

For 16gb SD is old map from 2019,no update. Is it possible to upgrade to 32gb SD?

Yes, you should be ok. I'm using the map and my card is only 16gb too.

In progress😎

In progress😎, and success! 😊

700MB left of space, it is possible that next update I will be short, any info how to exchange at skoda for 32GB SD card?

Looking on a well known auction site it seems that the 32gb card for the Amundsen MIB2 unit is 5L0051236BG but I would check with the seller first.

That is the correct part number for a MIB2 Amundsen card.

BTW anyone with a MIB1 Amundsen can use either the 5E0 051 236 or the later 5L0 051 236 SD card.

Even if you buy skodas 32gb SD without skoda garage coding it will not work.

I would'nt think individual coding is necessary for it to work. As long as it's a genuine card it will be hard coded for any Skoda Amundsen MIB2. I'm sure PetrolDave will be able to confirm this.

I think it is only for one unit, but I've never tried this.

Not true, I use three different genuine Skoda SD cards (all purchased second hand on eBay) for maps in my Amundsen - any genuine Skoda SD card can be used with any Amundsen.

I'd love to know where this rumour started that Skoda SD cards are locked to one unit - I've seen it posted twice in the last two days but never before, someone somewhere is spreading incorrect information :wall:

I was going to try out whether it was a straight swap between a proper Skoda SD NAV 16G card and a proper Skoda SD Nav 32G card.  Its odd that when the maps recently were released for 2020/2021 year, they only initially released the ECE1 maps (the 32G variant); two days later, the full range of separate maps were released.   I know where this rumour started; it seems to be a confusion over people wanting to try and LICENSE Sat.Nav  functionality onto their Discovery+/Amunsden systems (it was an issue for MIB1 systems - with some of those system providing a NAV button, but it lead to screen saying Unlicensed function, speak to Skoda dealer) and those people folk who wanted to upgrade their memory cards, because the maps were getting too large.  Somewhere down the line, the two though processes seem to have been mingled (not helped by vague postings on ross-tech forums).

I will be guinea pig - and will post the results categorically on here.  For the record, I have a MIB2 Amunsden system.

I was the guinea pig for the MIB1 Amundsen several months ago on here - of the 3 Skoda SD cards I have 2 are the smaller 5E0 version plus one of the larger 5L0 version, and I reported on here earlier this year that all 3 work fine in my MIB1 Amundsen.

Thanks for this info, maybe I will need it in the future, the price I found is 30€ for 32gb SD.

Thats why we have forums to know better then dealers because first garage I asked said that I can buy it for 300€🤔

So what is actually difference between OEM and non OEM SD card? 🤔

I believe that in this case OEM means Skoda branded. You cannot get a non OEM card to work as the Skoda ones contain hidden hard coded files. For instance, you can't just copy a map onto a non OEM card such as SanDisk or Kingston etc. It just wouldn't be recognised by your navigation system.

I tried, didn't work😁

So we concluded that used or new Skoda card of 32gb will work with any Admundsen 2, same for Columbus?

For now I am happy that new version of maps fits on 16GB😊

Colombus is different, that'll work with any card, the maps are read from hard drive, SD card is just to transfer new data.

I suspect part of the reason only Skoda cards work on Amundsen is because they read the maps directly from SD and VW Group want to ensure a minimum performance standard is met (read speed and longevity) to avoid people using cheap SD cards and then slating the Nav system as being slow or unreliable.

Are you sure that it will work with any card?

Yep, I think Columbus can be done via USB too, possibly even directly via WiFi if you have a suitable connection?

Columbus doesn’t need a Skoda branded SD card for map updates, you can even use a usb flash drive.

I went the easy route when I needed to update my maps on Skoda SD card. I don't trust myself to not mess it up if I download new maps onto card, so I bought a genuine Skoda SD card with updated maps  on it from Rustynuts, a member on here. From my old memory it was only around £20 and has been working perfectly ever since.

  • 2 weeks later...

So - my 32G Sat Nav card arrived from Riga, Latvia today.  Original Skoda bit.  Placed into my SD1 card slot - fired up the Amunsden - it worked first time,,,no fuss and no errors.

You can upgrade from a 16G card to a 32G card without any issues.

You do need the original Skoda bit for either your Amunsden MIB1 or 2 system though - no 3rd party coded SD cards, cos they won't work.
