Check fuses first.

Fuse 25 in cabin fuseholder, strip fuse 6 in battery top holder, and blade fuses 7 and 9 under the cover just to the right of the strip fuses.

Thanks I will check them now if not them then what's next?

Dunno. I always do the first step before worrying about the next.

All fuses good apart from I dont have fuse 9 in battery box its blank ?

OK, your car was possibly made earlier than the wiring diagram I looked at (May 2004 onwards).

Do you know when it was first registered? Or better yet, built?

VCDS scan of the ABS module would be the next step.

Ermmm how do I find that out ?

I think my cozen has a hand held scanner thing is that what you mean? Thanks again

Date registered is going to be on your logbook/ V5C I think. Build date is trickier to find out. Doesn't really matter, if there's definitely no wire going to the fuseholder at position 9, then there's no problem related to that fuse.

Some handheld scanners will read ABS faults, worth a try.

Is the battery light coming on when ignition is turned on, before starting the engine?

Actually, I'm not sure charging problems could be relevant here, but worth a 3 second check.

Most likely some water has got into the ABS module connector, I reckon.

Hi everyone. So sorry to be off topic here but i could not really find a topic relating to this. I was driving today in my 05 fabia vrs mk1 and the bonnet flew up. It has knackered the bonnet. I was wondering if anyone knows does it have to be a vrs bonnet or is the standard fabia mk1 bonnet the same. It’s the black magic colour. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Ian.

All Mark 1 bonnets are the same.

Many thanks. Just need to find one then

You may want to double-check whether it comes on - as I said above - when ignition is turned on, but before starting the engine?

Because it should, and if it doesn't there is a common wiring fault, which is why I asked the question.

No it did not come on at all ,thanks

Is it an easy fix ?

If you can join broken wires, then yes.

It's likely the blue one is broken at a two-pin plug/socket connection on a bracket on the front of your gearbox. Access usually best from below.

I think I can manage that , so if I take the sump gaurd thing off then look up at the gear box I will see it ? What dose it do ? The car has been a pain to start on colder mornings but is fine rest of the time thanks in advance

The blue wire supplies current to the alternator to help it start up generating.  If it's broken, the alternator may not start up reliably when the engine starts running; this tends to make the battery gradually lose charge.

Not sure if your car will have this slot-shaped hole in the undertray, but if it has, you may be able  to see the wires without even removing it, by torchlight.

Ummm, assuming any new bonnet comes with no kit.....

Before anything else, check (if able) the mounting points for the bonnet hinges on the chassis. These may have been bent or strained. Though that may be recoverable. More of an issue if the body-shell has torn around the mounts (in which case welding may be required to keep air/watertight). Usually, have a lot of spare washers around to shim the mounts onto the new bonnet.

It's likely both the main bonnet catch and the safety latch have seized up due to no maintenance. Spray with WD40 and work them until they move smoothly. Then grease liberally.

Many thanks for that. All looks fine around the mounts and hinges. I have located a bonnet but think i will take the hinges which are on it too. To be on the safe side. It’s dark blue though so shall have to get it sprayed.
