Simple answer to that.....  move south 😂

Sounds miserable!

In fact, I'm pretty sure of all the times I've gone to Scotland (for work) I don't think it's been sunny once.

2010 around Scotland there were places that never got above freezing for 5 weeks in a row.

Had to pail water to our cattle for a fortnight during that freeze as we couldn't stop the water pipes in the cattle sheds freezing. Saw minus 18°C during that freeze at my house.

To quote Billy Connolly.

"there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes".

@Alex-W

Trouble with moving south is you find that people are not capable of using the brains they were born with.

All that sun and so little renewable electricity.

PS

Where in Scotland did you go to?

I doubt it was the fantastic North East.

What I do is have a fan-heater in my car. It is connected to a timer which goes out of the window with help of wind deflectors. Heater starts ~20min before I'm ready to leave. So no unattended fire risk.  Best thing I've done to my diesel car beyond replacing it with an EV.

In my EV, just remotely start climate control (warms or cools the car depend on season) or use built-in timer. It's brilliant, it's how things should be as we approach 2020......... puring water, scrapping ice, using windscreen covers are so last century.

Biggest difference is, in the DIY fan heater car, your feet are still cold. Whereas in the EV, whole cabin fron top to bottom are toasty.

Wouldn't change it for the world. Love having 4 defined seasons.

Lets not go there.

Seemingly the issue is too many non English.   They just like people to do the heavy lifting and not hang around.

Bl00dy amazing i survived cooking with gas next to my 120 litre LPG tank.

More amazing i never froze to death. There is time yet though.

What offence? 🤔

I'm not a "snowflake".

I too, use this. Simple and effective. Use it on all external sealing rubbers but not on wipers...

I'm hoping this isn't your drinks cabinet George.........

@Auric Goldfinger Got the meths handy for various applications.

If you do not have the good stuff to spray on the Door Seals, and no Night Before De-Icer to use,

then Tyre Shine sprayed on works fine.

Tesco Tyre & Bumper Renovator was better before the new stuff. Smells OK.

Don't waste the roadkill.

Warmth & Food...

(or just TX Maxx £35 sheepskins)

...And if that fails, just go back to bed and drink the meths!

Re meths,

No idea if you still get taught at the tech or by the journeyman to burn the hair off your arms before doing some jobs, like gas welding.

Myself and my wife (we got married in Forres, Moray) were stationed in the North of Scotland for 4 years and I never appreciated it enough.  The moment we moved back darn South we realised how lucky we were.  Not long been back up to Edinburgh and Borders for a w'end with the kids and will be off to Glasgow in the New Year but it's  North/North West of Pitlochry that I enjoy the most.  I really want to take my boys back up in the early Summer and do the NC500.  Applecross is also somewhere I'd really like to visit.

 for both of them, awesome. (I live up in Caithness).

Word of advice, defo don't do NC500 in peak/late summer season as its mayhem and chaos  go early Summer instead.

Yeah, avoidance of tourists and midges will be high on my agenda.  I'll also be mindful of the schools in Scotland being a few weeks ahead with their holidays.

@penguin17

Obviously they built runways / airport where the weather best suits flying, but it can be a special kind of hoar frost you get where you were.

I grew up at Tropical Macduff, but spent time in winter occasionally in Nairn and a different kind of cold between the two places.

Other negatory against late summer is harvest season as well.

Midges weren't too bad at all with us this summer/back end.

You haven't been to Leicester recently then. Of the 330,000 City population only 49% were actually born in the UK. This is why Labour usually win the 4 City MP seats.

This is a joke right?

That might be but a 1.5kw electric heater is standard fit on my current car as is the winter pack.

My Mk3 Octavia had the winter pack too but no good if you can't get in like the OP.

Our Mk2 doesn't have the winter pack and has the 1.2TSi. It takes ages to warm and clear the screens on tickover, you have to sit revving the engine which isn't ideal.
