Fabia vRS mk1 mileage history check advise

Featured Replies

Hopefully posting this in the right place. Am considering going to look at a vRS Mk1 but after doing a HPI check on it, flagged up plate change and mileage discrepencies. Although MOT history seems good with no issues. Car ha had two previous owners so whoever buys it will be the third.

date of first registration in UK: 5th march 2007
R50TJS was registered to this vehicle on 05/03/2007

the current plate was transferred to this vehicle on 10/03/2010
current owner or keeper acquired on 25/06/2010

now here's the part I do not understand:
bvrla, 231 miles. date recorded 8th December 2012
DVLA, 43000 miles, date recorded 9th March 2007

How on earth could this car have done 43000 by 9th March 2007 when it was first registered in the UK (under reg plate R50 TJS) on 5th March 2007?

Also if the car has only had two owners (the last owner I am told was an elderly woman), then I assume one from 5th March 2007 and the next on 25th June 2010 but yet it looks like it was a hire car on 8th December 2012 and did just 231 miles?

should i be concerned?

can anyone please explain what is going on here?

No, you should buy a car based purely on it's documented relevant service history and the condition in which it's currently presented.

Elderly lady stories and low mileage are trader nonsense and should be regarded as arsesmoke.

Mileage and date of mileage caught my eye ,

date of first registration in UK: 5th march 2007

DVLA, 43000 miles, date recorded 9th March 2007,( apart from having a private plate ).

Q1 for me would be if first registered in UK on 5/3/07, then was it imported from a RHD country prior to UK registration . Apart from the bit about the hire element. With any vehicle having hire history, I'd be looking for service data as I used to get hire cars in a former life as a service engineer and none of the hire companies were too scrupulous over service dates/mileage . I did find my present vehicle ( lease car),bought at 12000 miles had never had an oil change from new . It had had an MOT earlier than it should have and on line records showed brake pad problems that were rectified bfore I bought the car. I only found out these facts after being on here for a while and finding out where to look. Sometimes ,there's a lot more information on the MOT pages ref advisories than can be found on service history.

I shop regularly at a supermarket favoured by the elderly old ladies oft found in the biographies  of the forecourt Hans Christian Andersons and it's a regular occurrence to hear an engine scream "help me" as it revs to circa 5/6000 rpm, whilst the car moves at 1 yard an hour, and the smell of "eau de clutch " is more obvious in the air than the smell of Blue grass. And before I get a posse of ladies descending on me, it's also common from the elder gents too.  Swimbo ( a non driving driver -she can drive, never bothered to sit test as she says "why keep dog and bark" ), is often seen winging and crying out about engine abuse in thse cases.

low mileage- for an older diesel , it can cause problems. On mine ( and possibly on the Vrs) , any less than 2500, especially without a good blowout , gets ERG valve clogup.

As SEP says in less words " should be regarded as arsesmoke "

Thanks VWD. you're right sounds like it's been imported. I didn't think of that. Imported into UK and registered 5th march 2007 and then a few days later mileage of 43,000 declared to DVLA. fast forward to feb 2010 has its first MOT and mileage recorded at 30,300. Somehow in the space of 3 years it has turned back the clock.

very interesting

Haha elderly lady 😂 takes the biscuit

reckon she only drive it backwards to her sons house to get it serviced as he’s a Skoda technician.

really though, could’ve switched it from km to miles or something like that. If it’s imported that is

UM- might be worth a call to Skoda UK on that one , with the vin no .

i've just had a look on https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=600450

and it could just be an import from one of the UK islands . but there are comments on that forum on how to spot from V5.

It's not a UK official car or it would be an SE from 2007.

Gibraltar or a personal import from Germany, possibly a squaddie bought it new then brought it back with him when he rotated home.

Anyway, who cares, if it's in decent nick with a good history then use the mystery to negotiate a better price.

Not necessarily. They did officially still sell the normal vRS model in 2007.

I understand that, I have a 2004 2.0 but they only made them between 2000 and 2002 so...

Nice choice on the Mustang slayer.

The 16" wheels that came on the 2.0 are by far the best factory wheel design on the MK1.

Wasn't "Taken like a king" or similar also a comment from that era?

Funny enough someone used that strapline to describe my 2017 Octavia Vrs245 which must have put them back in the 20th Century growing up.:tongueout:

15” ;)

Wow, I've never seen that thread before, now I understand the true levels of idiocy this forum used to breed.

The 2.0 is a nicely balanced package for very little money, it's like having Mark 4 Golf GTI running gear in a Polo, the 0-60 is down to the tall gearing and intrusive ASR, once rolling in-gear acceleration is quite brisk and with the full Bilstein B12 kit, RARB and poly bushes it makes a nimble backroad car. It does get thirsty when spanked though.
