4 x 4, does it work in reverse?

Featured Replies

Heading into the woods tomorrow for duties on the Roger Albert Clark Rally & it's all very wet in there. I'll be doing a lot of stopping & starting doing stage set-up. Can anyone tell me if the 4x4 system works when going in reverse? I've asked before on Yeti threads when I had a couple, but no one had an answer then, but hoping that other Kodiaq owners may come up with a yea or nay.

Cheers in advance. If I'm not back here posting news tomorrow evening, I may still be stuck in Harwood forest, near Rothbury in Northumberland with no mobile signal.

Well worth a look on that stage, first car in the dark at 1800hrs, couple of spectator carparks & great view points have been arranged, but take waterproofs, forecast not too great.

Yep, can confirm that it does work in reverse.

Thanks for that info, hopefully I'll not have to prove it!

This is my second stint of Skoda ownership, 3 years of Octavia estate then a couple of Yetis spanning 7 years. Needed something larger so went to Subaru for a Forester for a couple of years, big mistake, the second least reliable car I've ever owned, least reliable was a Citroen Xantia estate, one of the early ones with a rubbish 1.7L turbo-diesel. Only had that for 8 months then got rid.

Hope the Kodiaq is as reliable as previous Skodas, how has yours been, any problems to report? I can only find a few negative comments about reliability issues, all the oily bits are well proven VAG group parts.

Cheers again for the info.

No issues mechanically wise on my first Kodiaq, only had to get a door trim refit as it was rattling. Second is going back in sometime to get a buzzing noise checked out, and the steering wheel replaced.

The most common complaints with the latest iterations of Skoda models, especially the MkIII Superb, Kodiaq and Karoq are all electrical / software related.

They're getting very complex and it is becoming more and more apparant that 'early adopters' and even those buying now are having to iron out a lot of minor niggles that really ought to have been caught prior to launch.

That buzzing noise, can it only be heard by passengers in middle row?

Nah. Happens for 2min after I turn the car off after a drive, then makes a whirring sound (like it's shutting something off) and it stops.

Might be a sound of closing air vent flaps.

Nope. Dealer has no idea what it is.

Auxiliary pump to cool the turbos?

A lot of modern cars do this.

My Mercedes-Benz makes quite a bit of humming, buzzing and clicking after turning off the engine.

My smaller engined Kodiaq is pretty quiet though, its only really the priming of the fuel pump I can hear when unlocking and opening the door, and then sporadically as long as the door remains open.

Turns out it isn't normal. vRS owners in the UK are getting their electric water pumps replaced under warranty.
