Roof Bars / Bike Rack for 2017 Kodiaq

Featured Replies

Hello. I have looked at several threads to no avail. My in laws want to get me something for Xmas and I am looking to get some bars / bike rack so that my wife and I can take off with our mountain bikes. Rather than have them hanging off the rear, I wanted to get some Thule or equivalent manufacturer that would fit my 2017 Kodiaq

Can anyone give me some appropriate part codes, as when i put in Kodiaq on the Thule site, I get 9 versions, all with various different specs - https://www.thule.com/en-gb/buyers-guide?c=roof+racks&q=n7WJxJ3dD

Also, when I have the bars, I then need the actual bike rack, which is not even something i've researched yet. I guess I am looking for something like this.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would get the Wingbar Evo + Evo Raised Rail, then the Thule ProRide. I'm pretty sure Skoda just rebrands an older ProRide model, so you're essentially getting the same thing but without the markup of buying a branded product.

I can't speak for any kits that the Roofbox company sell other than Thule. As someone who carries 16' Canadian canoes on the roof, I can state that Thule are up to the job.

I have used Lidl bars and Kia own brand bars, both of which use decent bars, but the bits that fit to your roofrails could be more robust.

If you go with Thule. you'll need either a 757 or a 775 footpack. I see they also supply 7104 footpack to fit a Kodiaq, which is a new one on me and I've no idea how it differs from the other two.

Once you decide on the footpack, you then need to choose which bars you want that will fit onto the feet. I have aero bars personally which I leave on all the time as it's extremely rare to hear any wind noise from them and there will be no noticeable effect on mpg. Also, be sure to get locks and keys with your footpack.

The choice of bike carriers will be down to you, it depends on how much you want to spend really.

You don't state where you're based, but if it's of any use I have a Thule 757 footpack for sale which I had fitted to a Superb for less than 2 years.

I also have a pair of Thule 532 bike carriers which I bought new, fitted together and then never used, so they are as new. I have the footpack advertised elsewhere for £45 + P+P and the bike carriers are £50 + whatever the P + P is for the pair. I'm happy to sell separately, but if anyone wants both then I'll do the lot posted for £90, or they can be collected from near J23 on the M5. You'll then only need to add the roof bars of your choice.

Both the feet and the bike carriers have locks and keys.

I'm sure that makes other than Thule will do a perfectly adequate job of carrying a couple of bikes and will likely be cheaper than new Thule kit. However, if you envisage carrying bulkier items in the future, then I would put my trust in Thule.

Additional info

If present from inlaws, take the most expensive :)

I use Thule Wingbar Edge Black. Very silent ones.

Only disadvantage - they are so close to roof, that you cannot operate panoroof, if you have one.

Thule Proride is xcellent rack with affordable price.

Thanks all. I will pass that on.

On the Thule 959220 WingBar Edge Complete All-in-One Rack, they come in XS, S M, L and XL. Which are the right ones?

Medium.

Medium is right, but if you have chanche to try them first, try also S size. If you move the back rack to the very end of rails, it becomes very tight and impossible to fit.
