How to lock car while engine is running

Featured Replies

Hi there

Is there any way I can run the engine to heat my 17 plate keyless Skoda superb, then exit the car and lock it up while I go back inside the house?

Thank you

Yes this can be coded with VCDS, I have it enabled on mine.

Be aware though it is illegal to leave a car running whilst not in it (locked or not)

Can anyone recommend someone to do vcds to enable the car to be locked while engine is running and to override the stop/start in Merseyside/Cheshire area

Adaptations in 09 Cent electronics: ENG141651-ENG115754 -- ZV allgemein - Funk bei Klemme 15 ein - Set to active

How do I PM somebody near me, if I only have what appears to be a code type ID for them, I cab see roughly where they are on the map, but don’t have contact details.

Click on the tag in the map , then click on the link that appears to the left hand side of the page. YThis opens their profile page. Then click on the 'message' button whihc is to the right of their avatar and name and there you have the pm message to send.

I think that is what I did last time I used it.👍

I have a thermostatic fan heater in the car, and a programmable timer plug in the house - so if it's cold and the right time the car warms up. Much, much better for the car and the planet ( just in case Greta's listening)

If ordering a new car ask your seller to use the made_for_scandinavia production code. This will give you features for cold climates such as automatic electric/petrol heating under 5 degrees, a more powerful battery, heated nozzles etc.

Not a very environmentally aware approach, burning fossil fuel to pre-heat

Perhaps you should buy a coat and driving gloves instead

You could always lock it manually with the emergency key blade. Bit of a faff taking the cover off etc, but do-able.

Thank you Stewart

I have three keys so I suppose I take the emergency key from one of them but I tried that with an S class I have and it set the alarm off?

I do not want to set the alarm off so are you sure I could do this without it going off?

Thank you

Not sure, but set to reduced guard and should be fine.

I solved this problem with a Pandora Light Pro V2 alarm system, with remote engine start

It keeps the doors locked and alarm armed whilst I'm having breakfast.

I am not able to control the heater settings or heated seat settings remotely (Pandora can do this on some cars).

It just remembers whatever you leave it on. This works with front heated seats too (not rear) as I used Carista to change the heated seat memory to unlimited.

I am aware that it's not legal but I only really use it when the car is on private property.

Interestingly, Pandora offered no warning whatsoever as to the questionable legality of what they were installing :D

A colleague at work has just bought a Volvo V90. With an App on his mobile phone he is able to start the engine from inside the house and turn things like the heated screen, seats and steering wheel on etc.

As I understand it the doors remain locked, and if anyone attempts to break-in or move the car the engine shuts off.

I wonder where they stand from a legal perspective given the UK-specific statement above?

I realise that its Illegal to have the engine running and have the doors locked without anyone inside

My question is this, Is it also illegal to have the can unlocked and have the engine running and not be inside?

It seems to me to be safer to leave an unattended vehicle locked while the engine is running rather than unlocked?

It must be illegal to to have the engine running that is unattended full stop.

Funny thing is that I saw a car parked on the Tesco car park that was left unattended with the engine running.

It was a police car.
