Important! Before you start, open the window and turn off the ignition of the car.

Now we will explain the steps to follow for the entire operation, using the Duct Door. The passenger door will be the same, with some connector less.

1. DOOR PANEL DISASSEMBLY

image.png.f5dc5d37b8c110cce6a919da215285d0.png

In order to access the disassembly of the Door Panel, certain steps must be followed, following the parts scheme:

image.thumb.png.2ef09560b45db9d6c7ad3decf8de4a53.png

Disassembly must be done with some care, but in some places vigorously. I recommend using the plastic levers to pry the pieces and disassemble clips.

a) The first thing we will have to disassemble is the Door Handle Trim (8). Ref: 57A867197 / 57A867198

image.png.c49d45143e4aba1af2babbf69a1d3bcb.png

This piece is placed under pressure, with a series of staples, some lateral tabs, and a final tongue.

Careful! Lateral tabs are very susceptible to breaking.

image.png.8707e7a92b15806619418e416c6281c3.png

image.png.8b74b8efbebfbd85e9e55faaf5238c58.png

The best way to remove it is by starting to pry through the upper center (point 2), trying to unhook the lateral tabs, ... then through the lower center (point 1) and once disengaged, lift the end (3), and pull on its direction.

image.png.f204bd8663e973892886e1107f21dbab.png

b) Then we have to disassemble the Window Switch and Rearview Control, to access the cover screw (10). Refs: 57B867171 / 57C867172

image.png.5ae84df5fd200a0629d0f234abe38116.png

To remove this element you have to pry, starting at the back.

image.png.b40021c97b0f81ff0f1211da76fd4d47.png

On the back, it has two tabs, simple to disengage, ...

image.png.7469f3181e385fe94cda6c3f83aa6ca2.png

The front is more difficult, since access is somewhat more complicated. It also has two tabs to disengage.

We just need that, lift the rear area to access the screw behind it. If you can't get it out, do it like this.

This element has two electrical connectors that we can disconnect if we want. (See info in the Electrical Connections section Connectors 1 and 2).

c) The next step is to remove the only two screws that the Door Panel carries. They are 2 Torx M6x20 Screws (6). Ref: N91096801

d)      Now we only have to unhook the Panel of the clips that have been prying between the sheet and the door molding. We will follow the next scheme:

image.png.37533c11be871f788ddcac3baedb7231.png

Watch out! When unhooking the Panel, we will find some cables between the Body of the Door and this. We must unhook it carefully, trying not to tear the cables (there is a certain slack).

We have to start at the bottom left, and go unlocking the clips according to the numbers (Blue).

Once all the lower and lateral Clips are unlocked, we can lift the Door Panel (Purple) upwards, to remove it from its upper part of the Hook and the Guide Clip.

image.png.4bfe8002b9b9c89b7366bd60c8151100.png

The different Clips are these so you can see that you are releasing:

Clips Simples (Ref. 5J0867276):

image.png.96cf1091623be6f4a980ecf9bb2e5f4a.png

Clips Centrador (Ref. 4H0867260):

image.png.48a7f505defe9acf5b34aa81df44a75e.png

These Clips, when dismantling the Panel, many will remain in the metallic part of the Door.

In the ASSEMBLY section, it is explained later that those that have remained in the door must be removed and placed on the panel so that it can be anchored.

2. UNPLUG THE PANEL ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL CABLES

Now, holding the Panel in the air, we will have to disconnect a few cables.

image.png.22dc05d08cece4d015f8d4aa00103dce.png

1.- Power Window Connector – Ref.5C0971974:

image.jpeg.7d7fb3c01775246d935b939f76c41c2a.jpeg

To disconnect it you have to lift the red tab.

2.- Rearview Mirror Control Connector - 6Q0972706A:

image.png.f8a5f0395d86e366402eedb0dc2f9e32.png

To release it, press the side tab.

3.- Cable to mechanically open the door:

image.png.5fecb1538b2837d66932beab6e50c450.png

To release it, it is necessary to move the tongue 1, and then remove the plastic part 2, from the Guide. Finally we unhook the head of Cable 3.

4.- Pilot connector alarm / closing - 1J0973119 - 1J0973332:

image.thumb.jpeg.c5c97b3bb18e278134ed133f98d590bb.jpeg

To release it, press the side tab.

Note: In the first photo, the whole set is shown. You can also remove everything.

5.- Connector Opening button Tailgate - 1K0972704C:

image.thumb.jpeg.1acdb39fb4182bc696e43ec07d1072bf.jpeg

To release it, press the side tab.

...

With this we will have the Door Panel Completely disengaged and we can remove it.

3. CONNECTIONS AND WIRING

The connection of the Lights is carried out at two points, of the Clema B of the Door Control Unit J386.

image.png.e87c6669a697e03172eb9fd01dfdf61b.png

According to the Scheme:

image.png.f60d7a12aefc281bc30a01f16314af8c.png

The first in a Free Pin (Positive), and the second stealing the brown wire (Ground. Pin already busy).

a)      POSITIVE – PIN 16 - T32b

The first thing we have to do is disconnect Connector B from the Door Control Unit. The 32-pin connector. Ref: 1J0972977D

image.png.1e0a47820024f0c9a434a915f6ae354b.png

To do this, press Tab 1, and lift the Pink tab in direction 2.

Once disconnected, we have to remove the white inner sleeve with the harness, tightening the two dots (in Red) or raising the tongue, and pulling in the indicated direction:

image.png.908c0970ee8ccbe83e5306250b1a0837.png

Now we will have to grind a wire with one of the metal pins.

image.png.3ba367d0372f2798f43d4c66a1139ba0.png

If you have Crimper better, ... if not with the tongs.

This connector, we must enter it in PIN 16 of the T32b

image.png.80589915aa87fa4c7a89bd6f1d226bb9.png

b)      MASS (LAND) – PIN 5 - T32b

This PIN is already busy ... So we will have to steal Brown cable connection, which goes to that Pin.

image.png.b5e6934df19af94856a7dda5489506cb.png

For this we connect the second cable to the brown one.

I advise therefore, use a Steal stream.

c)       Welcome and Warning Light Wiring.

Leave the cables a little long to be able to maneuver comfortably when putting on and taking off.

9382D868-00F4-4ED5-804A-499D36F1634F.thumb.jpeg.f5ff38296831386eba2fd5b97c65dfe8.jpeg

You can use 2 more Steal stream to make the joint.

image.thumb.jpeg.1f64761cc93f3fa756333eeca5790550.jpeg

And fix the wire to the existing one, with Coroplast fabric adhesive tape:

image.thumb.jpeg.b4474c41433788a469c6b66a28599c51.jpeg

Now also, we can remove the two covers of the Catadióptrico without light and where the LOGO light will go, on the door panel.
You just have to tighten the eyelashes.

4. DOOR PANEL MOUNT

a)      If we have not already done so, we will connect the 32 Pin Connector in the control unit.

image.png.5c902357270a11ffb103f6eacdc48e81.png

We place and lower the Pink tab to ensure.

b)      We make sure that the Door Clips are in the Panel:

These Simple Clips, which normally remain in the metal part of the Door, we will have to remove them from it, and mount them on the Panel:

image.png.7ccc9a53ad5f1ddc1264b42791252d65.png

image.thumb.jpeg.b587470f85a8128690a01448310f354a.jpeg

The Centering Clip, we will have to disassemble its central part, and place it in its Panel position:

image.png.88c4329e3973e8a19074ca2baa5d3bb1.png

image.thumb.jpeg.dfcbdf51213d726db415e39f85e4d47e.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.009b1605bce4c60b46e9ca6f923b9441.jpeg

c)      We will reconnect the cables in the Panel:

- Door opening handle

- Pilot Alarm / Door Close

- Tailgate opening button

image.png.794fb07c25ec449c7d6b9864c35f6691.png

d)      We reassemble the Door Panel, first fitting the Hook and the Guide Clip at the top.

Once hooked on the top we fit the Clips from Top to Bottom.

Finally, we can reattach the 2 torx screws.

e)      We connect the cables of the Window Switch / Rear View, and put it back in position:

- Window Winder

- Rearview mirror control

f)        To finish, we assemble the Door Handle Trim, seeing that the Staples are in place.

With this we will have finished the Assembly of all the parts.

5. CODING

The last step we have left is to code the switchboards of the two doors, so that the lights turn on when opening them.

The coding with OBD to be performed is as follows.

One per door:

Driver's Door

1.- We go to CONTROL UNIT 42 Electronic driver's door
2.- Extended Encoding (Byte Mode)
3.- In Byte 1 activate bit 2
4.- we confirm

Passenger’s Door

1.- CONTROL UNIT 52 Electronic passenger doors

2.- Extended Encoding (Byte Mode)

3.- In Byte 1 activate bit 2

4.- We confirm

image.png.ad0f76a301515fb888daa99d04341344.png

And that's it.
With this we are done.

I hope you like Brico.
A greeting from Spain.

Wow!  A great explanation of how to fit these items but now iv'e seen how to install them I reckon life's to short!!!!

Just a quick update on this mod. I've just replaced the red reflectors with the red illuminated units (link at the start of this thread). The good news is that IF you have the SKODA welcome lights already fitted then there is nothing else to do other than splicing in to the existing wiring at the welcome light plug. The wiring for the existing downlight is quite short but if you pop this light out it's relatively straightforward to splice into the two wires and make a T joint (staggered slightly to avoid any chance of shorting out the wires) and solder the connections. I then reinsulated the two joints using a hot melt glue gun which is easier than using tape which might come undone eventually.

Why this wasn't done in the first place is beyond me as the cost of the two lights was less than £8!

Note: The cables and plugs supplied with the red safety light come wired in series for some reason. Simply cut the wires at equal lengths with plugs attached (obviously).

Hi Westie

Did you just pop the welcome light out at the bottom of the door or did you have to remove the door card?

Just picked up my 2019 Karoq Edition 4x4 and it's beyond me why they didn't fit these to such a well specc'd car.

Also, I don't suppose you know which wire was pos and neg do you?

Hi Jon,

Yes the lights just pop out quite easy, just use a small flat bladed screwdriver or similar, they're not particularly tight, so there's no need to remove the door cards at all. You'll see one of the welcome light wires has a yellow trace (black with a yellow trace I think), just connect this to the yellow wire attached to the red safety light. I don't think it really matters though, as I don't think the safety lights have LED's, rather using small tungsten lamps - could be wrong on that as I didn't want to open them up to see - they do give off a really good light though.

Thinking back, if you don't want to solder the connections, Scotchlocks would do just as well. Also worth noting - when you make the final connection, the lamp may not come on as it might have timed out - close the door and open again, obvious after the event but it might get you thinking, oh?

Have a look through these topics on how to replace the rear indicator lamps and reversing lamps with LED's - something else that should have been done at source.

Enjoy your Edition!

Thanks for the information, I will grab a set from Ali then and get them in. Due to the space there and the fact I can’t solder then I’ll probably use scotchlocks, if there is enough length on the wire though I may try and make some kind of plug.

ive not read the post about the reverse lights, I haven’t looked at my own. On the spec list it said it had ‘high functionality’ LED tail lights so assumed they wouldn’t already be LED.

I also thought that the Driver personalisation feature was standard on the Edition, it said it on the spec sheet but mine didn’t have it. I’ve enabled it now anyway myself, along with High Beam Assist and a few other things too.

The virtual Cockpit is awesome, the only thing I wish it had was the Adaptive Cruise. It’s seems to have everything else.

i need to figure out the power tailgate, is it meant to close via the key or just open? And can you open/close the windows using the button on the key?

Re your last two questions - yes to both. The tailgate will close if you hold the button on the key, once it’s on the move you can release the button, it should continue until shut. I think that with the windows you need to hold the button down until the windows are where you want them to be.

The ‘high functionality‘ tail lights refer to the inner sections of the tail light fitted to the tailgate, not the reversing lamps or rear indicator lamps - another really easy mod.

Thanks @Westie_vRS I had been double pressing the button and holding it on the second press which is why it wouldn’t work - that’s how I had to do it on my previous Mondeo. I followed your instructions and it works now, the pano roof also opens.

im going to look into the LED lamps for the rear, do they require coding for the flicker or will CANbus error free bulbs do the job?
