DPF ACTIVE REGENERATION

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I own a Skoda Octavia 65 reg for not too long, 35000 miles on the clock. it starts active regeneration very often about every 150 to 200 miles, my question is how often a 35k miles car should initiate an active dpf regeneration? Obviously when it's in process of regen, auto start stop is disabled saying engine needs to be running, is it ok if I leave it stationary and running while it's completing the process or the car should be driven on certain revs? Someone told me that the car should be driven above 2000 revs if it's a passive regeneration not active, is it true?

Help will be much appreciated. Cheers

The whole point of active regeneration is that it doesn't require the same conditions as passive regeneration, as far as I know active regen can occur even with the car stationary. I have a mk2 without auto stop-start but I can tell when there's an active regen in progress as the idle is raised a bit higher, and the cooling fan stays on at full speed all the time even for a while after the engine is turned off.

My daily driving does not suit a diesel with a DPF really, so I put a bottle of Redex DPF cleaner in every 6 months and whenever the DPF light comes on I immediately get on a high speed road to do a passive regen.

The manual says:

In order to clean the diesel particle filter, the vehicle should be driven at an even speed of at least 60 km/h at engine speeds of 1800-2500 rpm for at least 15 minutes or until the warning light goes out with the 4th or 5th gear engaged (automatic gearbox: position S) when the traffic situation permits it. This increases the exhaust temperature and the soot deposited in the diesel particle filter is burnt.
