Snow tyres for Fabia 1.2 110 Monte Carlo 2016

Featured Replies

I have just bought a 2016 Fabia Monte Carlo estate 1.2 TSI 110. It's fitted with 215/40 R17 tyres, which are in pretty good shape, but are not all weather / snow tyres.

I have a set of 185/55 R15 snow tyres on 6Jx15 H2 ET 43 steel rims that came off my old 2012 Fabia 1.6 TDI.

I'm not sure whether these snow wheels & tyres will fit the Monte Carlo. Could anyone offer some advice please?

Many thanks,

AdyL.

I fitted 185/60 X 15 winter tyres to my wife's 2015 Polo, I just bought some used VW alloys which are 6.0J X 15 H2  ET40, so you are only 3mm difference in negative offset and slightly smaller rolling radius than usual - so not quite correct but not far away from being correct.

Your call I'd say - just one thing, your insurance company will be expecting you to be using what is termed as an "alternative" or option size of wheel and tyre in winter, as I don't think that these are quite that, so maybe chat to them about that before using them.

Edit:- if you look at any wheel+tyre equivalent charts you will find that the correct size when using a 15" wheel is 185/60 x 15, what you are fitting results in just over 3% or 19mm reduction in rolling radius which is more than what you would be aiming to be wrt the original wheel+tyre sizes.

Another Edit:- I'd be more than a bit p'd off if faced with that slight difference, but I'd check to make sure that my insurer was happy with that non standard set up on any car as wheels+tyres are the insurer's assessor's first port of call after an accident regardless of who is to blame.

@AdyL

Welcome.

Is the car and the other wheels / tyres in the same location so as a starter you could sit the winters next to the tyres on the car and see the difference in circumference?

The correct ET for Mk3 15" wheels is 38, so you are 5mm out with those wheels which are exactly the ones I've been using with 185/60-15 tyres for the last 2 winters. You won't notice that difference, I certainly don't.

Other than the OP has 185/55 R 15's. An ickle smaller.

Hi and welcome.

Hopefully you won't have but if you have any issues with insurance for winter tyres then please feel free to drop me a line.

Dan.

I was talking about the ET not the tyre size.
