BS i think.

Recalibration to suit the increased tyre size.

Never seen an option in the instruments to recalibrate for different rolling circumference...

It can be done with VCDS, I would expect a dyno tuning outfit to have an equivalent diagnostic software so there is no justification or need to call out BS to a contributor.

To be honest it’s more just to keep my OCD in check lol.

Having your Odometer and Speedometer actuate is useful tho 😂

@JackHenry Your Speedo if not re-calibrated already is not accurate now as it left the factory, it over-reads.

If you put on slightly larger tyres as many of us do, especially now for winter or more robust for offroad / tracks the speedo is usually accurate.

You are going a bit too far oversized.

@J.R.   What is being recallibrated with VCDS?    I know that can be changed, and also fuel consumption, brake assist, haldex, steering assist and much more.

Are you saying it will be used to make the Speedo /Milometer Accurate,

or just to over read the speed a bit like as standard?

'BS I think.

Just recallibration to suit the increased tyre size.'

Is there something more than that to do with the remapped ECU and the gears?

No recallibrating and the speedo adjusted makes the bigger tyres suitable for the vehicle.

So to be clear, will the 245/40/R19 mechanically fit the vehicle?
I have seen elsewhere that at 245/45/R18 fits without issue on the MKII VRS models.

You are looking at the wrong size.

Go a smaller wheel to get a tyre with more sidewall and even rubber on the road, and no greater circumference.

Tyres / Wheel size that will not cause you issues, including fitting and then the Type / Approval and Insurance.

I understand that but I like the wheels it’s on and don’t fancy forking out at least £400 for a new set lol.

I would just stick with what youve got ,my vrs is on 18s but there not not really built for softness being more sporty ,your not going to make 19s any comfier just adding a tiny bit to the side walls ,you would need smaller wheels and larger sidewalls ,which to me would ruin a vrs .

It’s less about comfort and more about stopping the alloys getting wrecked lol

I was considering the 18” wheel with a 245/40/R18 which is only slightly taller thanks the OEM size?

zhz on the other thread, fitted his 245/45R18 to 7.5J rims. According to ETRTO, 245/40R19 need to be fitted to at least an 8" rim width, so will be at least 5mm wider than 245/45R18 fitted to 7.5J rims...as shown in the chart below.

Actual inflated width of tyres (measured from sidewall to sidewall, at the widest point)

225/50R17 fitted to 7Jx17 rims 233mm

245/45R18 fitted to 7.5Jx18 rims 237mm

245/40R19 fitted to 8Jx19 rims 242mm

245/40R19 fitted to 8.5Jx19 rims 248mm

In the UK do they check during the MOT if you are using one of the approved/homologated tyre sizes on your car?

Here in switzerland you would fail the annual control if you didnt have one of the approved tyre sizes or e.g. you had the wrong ET of your wheels even if the difference was only a millimeter or two.

The official R19 sizes for the Octavia were as below I think:

    - 225/35ZR19 88Y

    - 235/35ZR19 89Y

    - 255/30ZR19 91Z

so in theory the MKIII facelifts can run 255/35/R19 tyres on the 19” Extreme Wheels?

The 19" Extreme rims are only 7.5" wide.

According to ETRTO, 235/35R19, 235/40R19, 245/35R19, and 245/40R19 need at least an 8" rim width.

According to ETRTO, 255/30R19 and 255/35R19 need at least an 8.5" rim width.

However, some owners have fitted 235/35R19 and 235/40R19 tyres to their 7.5" width rims...although this is against ETRTO's rules.

Skoda have never sold 19" rims for the Octavia MK3 that have a rim width of more than 7.5"...so 235/35R19 and 255/30R19 have never been approved by Skoda for fitment to this car...because Skoda along with all the other major car brands don't fit tyres to rim widths that aren't approved by ETRTO.

245/40R18 fitted to an 8Jx18 ET44 or 8Jx18 ET45 rim might fit the Octavia MK3...although there's always a risk of rubbing or the tyre sticking out of the wheelarch when pushing the limits.

245/40R18 has a slightly smaller outside diameter than the 17" Octavia MK3 Scout tyre, ie. 225/50R17...and has an actual inflated width of only 9mm more than this 17" tyre size, ie. 4.5mm more each side.
