All Season Tyres for Superb Sportline 280?

Featured Replies

I'm having a nightmare getting all season tyres for my Superb Sportline 280 - official size is 235/40 R19...   I really wanted to try all-season tyres because I don't have space to keep another set of wheels but I would like a bit of extra grip in winter esp. since I got the 4x4 for that purpose also.

They seem to be rare in that size though I did find Vredestein Quatrac 5 235/40R19 96  on oponeo but they have called an cancelled my order and said they only have 1 in stock, have waited a week to see if they get more, and sounds like maybe they won't 😞
That's the second place that has let me down... Some places have suggested other sizes but that's really my last resort  (car is mapped and I don't really want to be compromising too much)

Happy for any advice, experiences, suggestions for alternatives.

Welcome to the world of Skoda Superb tyre sizes, all specially chosen to be expensive and have few choices... 😞

Virtually no choice in the weird tyre sizes Skoda use

Even some of the European companies that ship to UK seem to have high prices or limited stock, it is a problem this time of year.

Not much you can do about it except pay up, or fit wrong size

strangely Oponeo's website is showing good availability ?

Thanks, I'll give them a try...   they were showing at other places too - eg. oponeo - but after I'd ordered they called back and cancelled on me 😞

They've actually been on the phone this morning to say they only have 1 and ain't getting any more (at least not for some time) 😕

Hardly surprising following Black Friday offers going on for the past weeks.

There is snow on them there hills and many like minded people are online ordering the size of tyres that have not much choice in All Seasons.

Not that it helps you at all this time around but really you have to shop around for your all season or winter tyres in late summer or early autumn and keep them in stock yourself for when you need them as by December rarer sizes are often out of stock.

If the vredestein quatrac is in your size (good choice BTW) perhaps Google independent tyre shops/fitters which are even vaguely near to your location that are vredestein agents and start phoning around to see if you can get them anywhere else.

I have 19's on my SEL Executive diesel estate and am off to Germany next week so needed some suitable tyres. I couldn't get the Vredestein's either through my local tyre supplier (been using them for years) or online so ordered Maxxis AP2 (had see some reasonable reviews of them, and they were only £124 each) all seasons through Oponeo 2 weeks ago. Arrived within 3 days, had them fitted last week, so far so good. Test will be when it gets colder although I am in Kent. Feel happier driving to Germany with them rather than the P7's that were on there.

thanks for the tips folks. For better or worse I've gone for some Accelera X-Grip 4S.

I've cleared oponeo out of stock and ordered the other two from camskill - i've never used either before.

I don't normally go for budget tyres but frankly some of the prices for the Vredestein were eye-watering - almost 300 quid a corner on some sites, unfitted. (Made oponeo's original £164 look positively bargain!)

I may live to regret the choice, but at £300 for the whole car vs. almost a grand for the Vredestein, it's an acceptable risk for now.

Hopefully with a bit better planning I can get the Vredestein next time! The whole cybermonday thing just never occurred to me! :)

I bought 4 x Quatrac 5s from Camskill for £115/ea. at the end of October and they were delivered to London in three working days. I was impressed.

Maxxis AP2's are another option in 235/40 R19.

It's of little use now but for the last 3 sets of tyres I've bought I've got from the mytyres eBay outlet when eBay have a 20% off coupon.  It can also be used in conjunction with mytres multibuy discount which is a further 8-10%.  They often have Quatrac 5's in stock too.

Germany now requires tyres with the 3 Peak Mountain with snowflake symbol in all wintry conditions (including dry but frosty).   There is no calendar dates that define wintry.  Applies to any tyres with an 0118 (Jan 2018) onwards date code, there is a transition period for 2017 and earlier tyres with M&S

Also a requirement to have functioning screen washers (with antifreeze)

For completeness rules change on 1st July 2020 when vehicles over 3.5t including motor homes require winter tyres on all axles (currently just driving axles)

Austria is even tougher winter tyres are compulsory from mid Nov for season and lots of stories of fines of euro5000 at the boarder for those without.

Another reason why I wanted the all season tyres. The Maxxis have the 3 peak mountain and snowflake symbol, although I'm not venturing up any mountains I'd rather be safe than sorry. I did hear a story of a British car hit on the autobahn from behind but as they didn't have the relevant tyres (it was in winter time) they lost out on the insurance claim.
