Engine change

Featured Replies

Hi all, looking advice. I have a superb 2 1.9tdi BXE, what is best way to change engine, out from Below, out from Above, or out from front. It's done 204k mls needs cam doing, and turbo doing as it is not pulling well and fuel consumption down, now I have a replacement Mtr with 95k on it good motor. I also have replacement turbo so thinking change Mtr and check clutch when out. Any help or advice gratefully accepted. Many thanks in advance.

The closest Haynes manual I've found for mine (1.4tsi) is for the "VW Golf 2009-2012 (58 to 62 reg)" - unfortunately it doesn't cover the 1.9 as this age of Golf already had the 2.0 diesel engine.  Most of the mechanical/electrical bits are the same though.

However it looks like it's a remove from above job but you'll also need to move the bonnet lock carrier assembly to gain access (think there is a service position for this  - or remove entirely but you'll need the gas removing from the aircon)).

Good luck - I suspect it's a pretty big job. If you do do it - probably worth fitting a new tandem fuel/vacuum pump whilst you are passing , possibly a replacement pd injector wiring loom (cheap and easy) and a new waterpump/cambelt/thermostat. Easypeasy to do before fittinng the replacement engine.
