Blind spot detection

Featured Replies

I did say there might be some silly questions.

Does blind spot detection need activating. I would expect to see something in driver assist settings, but it is not there.

Thanks for your help

Ok, I’ll ask this first...is this a new car and if so did you spec it? If a used car, did the dealer tell you it was on the car?

I don’t have it on mine so cant advise where it would be enabled/configured but this wouldn’t be the first time that spec has changed/the factory messed up/the dealer ‘lied’

On my 2016 model there's a little car symbol in the corner of the door mirror glass which glows orange at startup and then again when it detects something in the blind spot.  I can turn it on/off using the driver aids button on the right-hand side of the steering wheel and then selecting 'Blind spot' (or some such) in the menu on the display in the instrument console.

When it detects anything connected to the towbar electrics I get a warning telling me it's been deactivated and I have to switch it back on again.

I know what you're getting at, `Penguin`.

I do wish people would detail the car they have when they ask questions about it. Saves alot of wasted info being passed on.

TBF I’m viewing on my phone which doesn’t list full profile info such as car/spec (which people do often add)

I was just trying to ascertain the OP’s expectations in the car/spec vs what it may or may not have. 😃

Thanks for all your replies. Problem solved. I was expecting the result that Unclerichy gave, with a small symbol on the mirror. The warning turns out to be a "massive beacon" that lights up on the mirror housing adjacent to the car. You can't miss it!!

In future I will give fuller details of the car!! Yes it is a new car that I spec'd.

Blind spot detection, can be deactivated using the multifunction steering wheel buttons, if necessary. You'll then get a special display on the MOT. (Un)Tick what you (don't) need ;)

The Blind Spot menu, if fitted, is there in the Cluster and the Infotainment.

On my new superb 1.5 SEL DSG there is no setting in the Driver Assistance Menu. It must be "hardwired" in now, with the change in mirror display

have a similar question I have a 17 SE Tech which has all round warning/self park etc yet no blind spot assist yet if someone stands near the door when either stopped or if i select revers i get a warning to say theres an obstruction at that point do i or dont I have it? Must say this feels a lot cheaper in general than our fully specced mk2 estate and not as solid either.

The change in mirror display is only from MY20 onwards I believe, or with the facelift.

All prior model years have the small warning symbol in the mirror itself.

It sounds from your description that the answer is no. You are describing the parking sensors. In my MY17 L&K the blind spot Assist shows as an orange light in the door mirror when overtaking / being overtaken at a relatively slow rate. One of the clever things about it is that it doesn't come on if you are overtaking or being overtaken quickly (eg doing 70 and overtaking a car doing 50) as there isn't time for the other car to be in your blind spot. FWIW I wouldn't be without it in mine as I think the door mirrors are too small to see everything clearly, unlike the Mk2.
