DSG gearbox

Hi all.

Thank you for accepting me.

Looking to buy Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI DSG SEL 66 plate. Could anyone please update me the DSG variant comes with this model.  I mean 6 speed Wet or 7 Dry Clutch and how is the reliability and service interval for Engine as wells DSG box.  The car has done 12000 miles by the previous owner. I have never driven a Auto before and its is the first time buying an Auto box so a little bit confused. TIA

Welcome.

A DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch that has no servicing schedule or guidelines.

Service interval can be annual / fixed so at 9,400 miles (10,000) or on Variable so up to 18,000-20,000 miles / 24 months.

The same oil is used which ever, Long Life. VW 507 00.

thank you . what are the best ways to keep it maintained like driving style or any other things in mind with the DQ200 7 Speed dry clutch for day to day driving please?

Take out a Skoda extended warranty after checking it will cover the DSG and drive with your fingers crossed.

:)

The DQ200 is the least reliable DSG.

I've owned five and have had warranty work on four.

My 1.6TDi Octavia had £5500 worth of repairs on the box.

I wouldn't recommend owning one out of warranty.

If you want the 1.6 go for a manual.

@logiclee is these all pre 2016 models you had issue or later 2016 models please?

The issues can happen with any of any age.

There was the 2009-2012 world wide recall and Europe's Service Campaign. '34F7'.

Then 2013-2015 '34H5'

So they were dealt with. There is the Slipping Clutch issues, 2014/15-2018.  Software update and clutch pack up date available.

These are only small percentages of actual cars / DQ200's having issues, but you never know as VW treat as though not an issue.

Hundreds of thousands of good cars out there, you just need to get one of those, and not a lemon.

Get a warranty and that helps.

Or get a 2.0TDI & a wet clutch DSG and service the DSG to schedule, so oil change every 40,000 miles at around £189.

3 pre 2016 and two post 2016.

The only one that was problem free was our first one in a 2011 Golf.

No please don't. It's the only model in the range that gets a 5 speed box and it's poor.

Just get the 2.0 with the DQ250.

4x4 1.6 has 6sp box if that's an option.

Good call. I was is in a similar predicament earlier this year. Never had autobox before either. Got a 2016 SEL 2.0 tdi dsg. I love it. Its great to drive. Dsg takes a little time to get used to but after a while it's fine. Sport mode (just pull the lever back a click and it goes from "D" to "S" is very handy coming off roundabouts and on country roads I drive alot on. On motorway it's really effortless. Hope you find you new motor soon.

I would not buy a diesel with all the forthcoming bans on diesel in cities coming up.

I have well over 200,000 miles with the 6 speed DSG linked to to 2 litre diesel and similar amounts on the DQ200 7 speed DSG in Fabia VRSs and Octy 1.4 TSI which I currently have.

The latest DQ200 with ECO driving mode manages over 55 mpg, better than I got out of the diesels and the acceleration that I got in the diesels even 2 litre models.

DQ250 requires service costing every 40k miles, DQ200 does not and is built for 400,000 km lifetime, will take up to 380 NM of torque.

7 speed auto can give 25 miles more range than a manual, 6 speed DSG, I found, gave 25 miles less range than the manual, do the Maths as they say.

Always have a warranty that can cover the £4K or so repair costs as these bits can be expensive.

@lol-lol

What lifetime is a DQ200 built to last for and where does VW Group tell anyone?  Is it even 10 years?

Skoda build 2,200 of them a day and they are fitted to cars and the owners get given no Service Schedules or guidelines and they only come with a 3 year manufacturers warranty.

Only 2 years in some countries.

still my MITs Lancer Juro 2.DID 61 plate performing well. 73000 miles done and no expensive work other than ignition box £185 last year. ECU replaced under Man Warranty   :)

I liked to know where that info comes from, 400,000km is just under 250,000 miles, ifan Octavia with a DQ200 is used as a a taxi (there is some out there) it would  not have a very long life at all, Any gearbox is susposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle and that could be a million miles. incidently not all DQ200 boxes got wrong and i have seen and tested octavia's still on the origanil DSG boxes (200's and 250's) with well over 250,000 miles on the clock, here in london minicabs have to be MOT'd every 6 months and be under 10 years old to comply with hackney PCO rules. And yes i know DQ200 boxes are the worst out of the DSG's.

The OP said he wanted a diesel so that's probably what should be discussed rather than why he shouldn't buy a diesel. But that comment about diesel has me curious. The forthcoming bans on diesels in cities...  Please, tell more.

P.S.  If I needed a diesel then I too would take the 2.0 over the 1.6 not only because of the points previously raised, but because the 2.0 sounds much more refined.

Bristol Council looking to ban privately owned diesel powered vehicles  entering in the city between 0700-1500hrs from 202. But not sure as it’s needs govt approval.

2 litre diesel is smoother with its counterbalancing but I use to only get around 50 mpg in my Toledo.  1.6 is more like 60 mpg so quite a difference and the 7 speed DSG helps fuel consumption where the 6 DSG damages it by around 2 mpg according to the old extra urban figures and my experience.

London ULEZ.....  https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicle-35896

Birmingham due to follow https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/20076/pollution/1763/a_clean_air_zone_for_birmingham

Was due to start today but has been delayed 180 days until 1st July 2020.

Other cities due to follow so it might influence people car buying if they plan to take that car in to these cities.  Not sure about Jockland but suppose to be next year (2021) for several Scottish cities.

How to use ULEZ vehicle checker - are YOU affected by Ultra-Low Emission Zone?

Petrol-fuelled vehicles exempt from the charge must meet the Euro 4 emissions standard, while for diesel models it is the Euro 6.

As a rough guide, petrol cars meeting the emissions standards are those registered after 2005.

And for diesel models, it is vehicles four years old or less.

The easiest way to find out if your vehicle meets the ULEZ standard or not is to type in your number plate to the ULEZ vehicle check on the Transport for London (TfL) vehicle checker on its website.
