Phone Box with Wireless Phone Charger

Featured Replies

Hi, does anybody have a copy of, or access to Skoda dealer bulletin SK0437-18  from April 2018 reference the withdrawal of the phone box hub and wireless phone charger (PR option codes PT1/PT3/PT5/PT7) on Superb L&K, Karoq Edition and Kodiak Edition vehicles please?

I have SKU0461-18 regarding the removal from used cars and the stop on the sales thereof, but the above document contains information 'regarding the technical solution and previously communicated registration block release process for new cars'.

It is very important to me that I see this document, but if it is not available, the release date of SK0437-18 to the dealer network would be extremely useful.

Skoda UK have refused to provide the document or any information relating to the content or date of issue.

Thank you in advance to all you lovely Skoda folks at this site

Best regards

Hi Persolus,

Although I can't help you with any help regarding the bulletin above, I can say that (without tempting fate) my Karoq has now been back to my dealers twice now for warranty issues, and on both occasions the phone box hub/ wireless charger/ amp have not been removed or tampered with or even mentioned. Given the short time they are allowed to complete jobs, I reckon that unless Skoda give a bounty or reward on these captured items, the dealer won't them a second thought.

Hi westie38, thanks for responding. As a matter of interest, when did you take delivery of your car? And I am presuming it was new when you bought it?

The reason I ask is that bulletin SKU0461-18 that I do have describes the process for stopping the sale of used car stock, and alludes to the removal of the feature from new factory deliveries. It clearly states that 'vehicles already delivered to customers and in-use must not have this work carried out - we'll provide more information shortly'. This referring to the removal of the antenna amplifier. It goes on to say that this should not stop the wireless charging function.

Mine arrived without the antenna booster and wireless charging after having paid for it, and without any prior indication from the dealer of the change. The dealer is lying through their teeth in asserting that I was told at the time of order...which was 2 weeks before Skoda issued the bulletin. Hence my need for a copy of the document and/or its issue date.

Thanks again.

I understand it had to be withdrawn as it operated on the same frequencies as military / police... causing issues... but no documentation to back this sorry..

Hi Persolus,

I picked up the car in mid February 2018, as it was the dealers demo car, which they received in mid December 2017. That's the first time I've heard that already delivered vehicles must not have anything removed. As I have mentioned in earlier posts (I think) the amplifier is the small rectangular device located under the centre rear seat with two wires attached. It might be worth having a look there just to see if it has been removed, leaving the two wires and plug hanging loose.

Correction:

After delving into Arkaig's excellent Workshop Manuals (Communication Workshop Manual), it appears that the Aerial Amp module (J984) actually lives behind the right hand trim panel in luggage area.

SimonAudi, thanks for responding. The reason given by Skoda at the time was 'Regrettably, due to technical and regulatory constraints, we are unable to provide this function at this moment in time.'

I understand that although compliant in the EU, as a result of OFCOM changes introduced in the UK in April 2018, the system did not meet the new regulations, and was withdrawn from UK bound cars AND existing dealer stock almost immediately. Whether the issue was interference with public service vehicles, security of personal data transmission outside the vehicle, or just a general power/transmission issue I don't know...I have seen all three reasons given.

Thanks again

Hi again Westie38, thanks for the update. Perhaps if I look hard for the box I might also find the compensation payment from Skoda that is owing to me 😉

I won't be holding my breath just yet though.

Regards

As you know... Skoda has the right to amend the specification at any time....

Others did get compensation (if I recall correctly) over vehicle changes after point of order... but is it worth wasting your life chasing them for £50 to £100...

SimonAudi, sure Skoda can change the spec anytime it likes...but when it has taken payment for something it has not provided...is that ok too?

And on your second point...its not always about the money.

Over and out

I never said it was OK... but sometimes its easier to move on...

When did you order car... because it looks like your still waiting delivery..
