Cost of parts

Featured Replies

Hello people. I looked at a Skoda Octavia Station Wagon today and learnt of course that the parts are Volkswagen. I have been burnt before with the cost of parts for European cars. What can you tell me re the cost of parts past the warranty period? Cheers.

Relatively speaking, I'm sure that was true 20 years ago, then Ford brought out their new Focus, and prices for parts for that sounded a bit high to me while speaking to people that owned one.

One thing to remember about VW Group parts prices, for common parts they all have the same part number and so the same price, okay you might strike up a good relationship with your local Skoda dealership parts department and get a bit of discount, but other than that you could buy online but only from dealerships who have a parts departments that operate online.

Too many times in the past, I have bought VW parts online from a trader that handles discontinued/superseded parts or even where marque packaging has changed, and paid more than my local VW or Audi dealership would charge - but in fairness to that online trader, it was only seeing some optional kits/parts for sale online that alerted me to their existence.

ECP and GSF also sell many parts from brands that VW Group fit at factory and sell as spares at dealerships.  Just be very wary about using ECP as they can/do list all options for that model/age of car, so doing some homework before using them does help a lot, also walk into your local Skoda dealership parts department and ask for a printout of "CAR DATA" for your car, that can help a lot.

Welcome.

Which country are you in?

It could well make a difference, often members in Australia mention crazy prices being asked for VW Group parts.
