Windscreen Wipers

Featured Replies

This is more of a 'why on earth would the do that? moan than anything else, but why on earth would Skoda design wipers where you just can't just pull the wiper arms up when cleaning the car?I thought it was me at first but no,there is no way to do it.I am now presuming that to change the blades, you need to stop the wipers in mid cycle in order to pull them up.

You just need to put them in the maintenance position as described in your owners manual.

Cheers for that Kenny, was just surprised when I came to lift them.21st century problem I know, but a bit of a faff when you washing the car 😁

'Maintenance' position as well for 'Frosty Night parking'.  Putting a cover under the wipers and over the screen, or just not having them frozen in the park position.

Obviously you've not come across the 'unusual' traits of door mirror adjustment then! :o

@john999boy no sorry, please explain.

My poser was to @Steve _G George as I'm sure you know what I'm referring to. ;)

No i don't know.

Unless you mean folded in mirrors not opening. But then those that have cars in the environment that icing up is an issue know not to have them folded in.

I was referring to what happens to the 'other' mirror depending upon which one is being adjusted.

The design is not peculiar to Skoda but common VW for what must be over 20 years. The maintenance position was part of mk5 Golf which came out in 2004 but from looking at the pics, it looks like Mk4 Golf had this too, and that came to market in 1997 !

I don't know the reason for it but hiding them under the bonnet should defo improve aerodynamics and be less prone to frost than wipers that are exposed.

Or perhaps it's to prevent theives from nicking your wipers :nerd:

Cheers Scot, I have been driving BMW and a VW cc for last 20 years and never came accros this, hence my op,as you say probably an aero thing originally, marginal gains etc.Seems a bit ott for a SUV but hey 😁

The mirror issue, I had been driving mine for several years wondering who kept knocking my passenger mirror out of alignment before finally twigging what was going on, in my defence I am effectively blind in the left eye and have a narrow field of vision.

Without spoiling the suspense once i knew what was happening and what to do it was never a problem thereafter.

Then my MK2 Octavia did the same but of course by then I knew how to handle it.

Then I found that it could be recoded by VCDS, that peed me off not knowing it earlier, I hate having to jump through hoops because of the incompetence or intransigence of others (living in France you have no choice), god only knows why they chose that as the default setting.

Ok I give up can someone put me out of my misery, looked at p.290  and searched to no avail.Whats the problem with the mirrors,Im guessing passenger mirror alters with the drivers side?🤣

They started putting the wiper arms under the bonnet for more pedestrian safety as people were being killed as there head hit the wiper nut
