Fuel filter replacement

Featured Replies

As above, I’m about to replace the fuel filter on my 14 2.0 140..

I have watched a few tutorials and it seems very straight forward, just wanted to know if the system self bleeds or do I have to do this manually??

no tutorials mention this part.

cheers

as there is a return line to the tank i would say self bleed, also my mechanic doesn't appear to do anything other than swap the filter

All I've ever done is swap the filter. Very straightforward and takes all of 5 minutes.

You are supposed to use vcds and prime filter 3  times before starting

But you can do this with just turning on ignition a few times and waiting for the two pumps to refill fuel filter before starting

I also put some Forte fuel conditioner in filter housing as well to top it up

The system does not self prime, the correct method requires running the lift pump AND the auxiliary fuel pump (I don't think this runs on a key cycle but might be wrong) via diagnostic tools before starting the car to prevent any damage or wear to the HPFP.

Most people seem to get away with not following the correct procedure by making sure the filter bowl is as full as you can get it before boxing it all back up again.

Yep, this is how I understood it. Having said that, I changed my filter the usual way before I found out about the above and was absolutely fine. Not even the slightest hiccup on start up.

Thanks for the advice, got an independent to do an oil and fuel filter replacement £100 all in, that included reprogramming with the diagnosis tool....👍🏻
