Hi , and thanks for the add . As the title suggests im after help identifying which stereo i have in my car . Its a 2015 octavia vrs estate cd drive in glove box with one sd slot and this is the screen , im fancying upgrading to bigger screen and or getting smartlink so i can use my phone satnav in the car

Yes thats a Bolero and MIB 1, If you want smart link and don't want to go down the after market route; then you need an amundson or culumbus base unit which is MIB 2.5 (2017 model year on i think, am sure Sasha Grace will correct me) you will also need the latter screens as well (again MIB 2.5). These do come up second hand and pretty expensive (looking for myself) but they will the Component Protection removed, some dealers will do this at a cost some won't, and then smart link activating, there is a member on here who can do this but the unit needs sending to him, again Sahsa Grace will be more help here.

 

You can offcourse  go aftermaket but i don't now how easy that is, on the MK2 octy you could get kits but not sure on the MK3.

Doesn't have to be mib2.5. Can be mib2. The work around for the mib2 Amundsen has been closed by Skoda so you are likely looking at a Columbus mib2 or 2.5. All Columbus screens will work even MIB1 versions. If you want other screens they must be mib2 or 2.5. From mib2 on they are cross compatible between systems. MIB1 they are not.

Component protection is on the glovebox unit and can be removed by dealers if needed for £50-80 depending on dealer.

Then you'll need to send both old and new units (not the screens) off to pab567 on here to have them updated and relevant coding. He is a genius.

Component protection is not on the screen. They can be pulled out and changed as you like (compatibility depending).

 

Edit: Allow up to £1000 for a straight forward swap. More if you want mib2.5 Columbus.

All of the above is correct  You have a MIB1 Bolero, if you want to upgrade the unit the options are now MIB2 or 2.5 Columbus or MIB2.5 Amundsen as the MIB2 Amundsen hack as now been closed by VW. 8 inch screens work with those units. This is the screen I would luv in my 2015 Octavia. Will the App button only work with certain head units or how does it work? 

Need to be a MIB2 unit for this to work, APP button will only work on MY17 onward Amundsen on 03xx firmware.

Ok, so if I get a MY18 there should be no issues. 

 

If I go with MIB2.5, will a MIB2 Canton amp be dead in the water or will a MIB2 amp work? Maybe there is no such thing as a MIB2.5 Canton anyway? 

After CP is removed, features reactivated and CAN Filters installed it’ll be ok and it’ll be ok with the amp. A lot of money though for one button, you can still get SmartLink through the Menu.

You'll have to explain in more detail what you mean by "a lot of money though for one button". What would be the better option? 

 

I have the small Bolero and a Mib1 unit right now.
