How to replace rear 'Yeti' badge please.

Featured Replies

It's the big central one on the rear hatch. I recall you need to heat it up but would be pleased to receive any advice.

Some kind soul removed the face plate on the badge whilst parked and, of course, left the base behind.

Only positive to find is that it was riddled with white worm but it does mean that I'll now have a green one on the front and a black one on the rear.

EDIT. Just ordered it .... £26.

Some dental floss behind it will get it off.

Yes, I did wonder if something along those lines was the trick, no need to warm it up then?

Ta.

In cold weather a little warmth won't go amiss, then use the dental floss.

It worked removing a caravan number plate.

All received with thanks.  I'll warm it gently with the hot air blower (set low) and floss it off.

Let me know how this goes and it you come across anything you think may helo on the job. (I'm going to do ours at some point)

Cheers

OK.

I've not forgotten to update as requested ... it simply hasn't turned up yet.

They did send the wrong one  (the one that just says "YETI")  quickly enough but there seems to be a bit of a delay in getting the right one.

Update.

It turned up.  They were going to ring when it arrived last week - and they did call to say the wrong one had been delivered ....but having not had a subsequent call during following week I rang them and, hey presto, it was there.

Warmed  the old part with the heat gun set low and had a go with the dental floss. It was taking a while to get a third of the way through, and the floss kept breaking, so placed some protective card on the adjacent paint and gently levered it off with a stout screwdriver - I dare say the 'dent-devil' people have plastic tools for that sort of thing.

It gradually eased off OK and I then warmed the remaining adhesive on the boot lid and peeled it off, cleaned it and warmed the new badge and offered it up ... there are two pins on the back of the badge that locate into two holes, so not much chance of getting on crooked.

Sorted.

Thanks.

Strangely enough, yesterday I found that my rear badge (just the outer 'Skoda' disc) had become detached and was lying on the ground behind the car. There is still a black moulding attached to the car, so I presume with a bit of a clean up of the moulding and the disc, it should possible to re-attach it with some suitable adhesive. Does anyone have any recommendations on a suitable adhesive for this job please ?

Thanks in advance.

Sikaflex or any generic PU adhesive.

Fishing line or similar is a better bet.....

Yes, I'd have thought the fishing line suggestion would be much better than dental floss, which kept breaking, and which wasn't that successful (but would be better than nothing if you didn't want to try to lever the base off and didn't have fishing line .... not everyone does, do they?).

How strange Trevor experienced the same thing as myself ... i.e. the face became separated from the base.  But, in my case, I could see, what I would gather, would have been a fresh finger mark in the dirt ... but not an attempt to lever it off - and, strangely, can only have been done in one of two quite public places.

Like I said, the only positive to be taken is that the old one had bad white worm, and the new one looks much better - AND because it was ordered from the chassis number the old style green and black one was delivered as opposed to the new all black one... which is good coz it matches the front and the green badges on my wheel caps.

Piano wire is the best, if its good enough for garrotting its good enough for double sided adhesive foams.

Not having any piano wire I use stainless steel lockwire which is incredibly thin, strong & ductile.

Use it for badge removal, not garrotting 🤣
