Road noise reduced with new tyres

Featured Replies

Just put on some new tyres, Falken Azenis FK510, and road noise (and vibration) is greatly reduced. Now the noise I can hear in the cabin is mainly wind noise around pillars. It's early days but car also feels more planted and haven't been able to spin the wheels yet. So overall I'd say a good change of tyres. This is on (new) 18" rims with 225/40/R18 tyres.

Running those on my vrs too ,seem like a good tyre 👍

tempted by these over my hankook v12 as 2db quieter

They've got good reviews and got them from pneus-online for £60 quid a corner (delivered). Recommend both the tyres and the website. Like I said night and day in terms of road noise, just hope they wear well.

They wear quite well. Got them on my mapped 4x4 superb sportline and they work quite well. Not sure how many miles they’ll do but generally as long as it grips well is quiet and I don’t end up in hedges backwards then I’ll replace them when needed lol

The only "negative" thing is that my mpg has dropped off by about -5 from ~60mpg to ~55mpg on a motorway run in this cold weather. I knew that would be the case given the Eco rating (E) compared to the Pirellis (C). Prefer the extra grip/better braking over a few quid though.

Blimey, maybe you should have gone for the Falken Ziex ZE-914B Ecorun. Fuel C and even quieter at 67dB

Ha, yes, I did consider those but went with better stopping power, grip etc. in the end. I do a 90 mile daily commute on the road of death aka A34 in Oxfordshire.

Actually looking the spec of the Ecoruns they are the same "E" rating as the Azenis (E, A, 69db), so maybe not that much better in terms of mpg.

How do these compare to the Goodyear Asymmetric 5 or Michelin Crossclimate+ for noise? Difficult to get opinions and I'm going back and forth trying to get the quietest tyres..

No personal experience but these are the figures from Autobild Tyre roundup: https://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2019-Auto-Bild-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm

I saw that one but sadly it is external noise testing, which can give different results to in car noise.

I think its fair to assume that if it's noisy on the outside it's going to be noisy on the inside, as general rule.
