Car seat cover or cushion sought

Featured Replies

         Hello,

This may seem like a trivial topic but I am looking for a car seat cover or cushion for my 2017 Fabia estate SEL 110. My wife says she doesnt want one so its just the drivers seat. The seat is pretty comfortable but I want to keep it looking good for future resale purposes and simply because I like to drive a car that is smart inside as well as outside.  I have a Walser seat cushion on at the moment that I had on my previous  Fabia but it has creased badly and I really need a new one. I do realise  that safety is very important when considering seat protection because of the airbags being able to deploy correctly.  Thats actually why I bought the Walser because of the safety issues, they claimed to have a special stitching that permitted the side airbag to operate properly  but, as I say, it has creased badly and is overdue for replacement and a new one of those is likely to have the same problem.

I like the genuine lambswool seat covers( not the faux fur ones)  but they are expensive ( upwards of £80) and I want one that I know can be used on another vehicle when  the time comes to change vehicles.  I have contacted the parts department at the Skoda dealership where I bought the car from and await their response. I even tried "Which" as I am a member but they havent done any testing or made any recommendations. The cheapest way would be to buy a "universal" type, the upvc type but they are horrible to look at and I want something better than that.

The safety aspect does really concern me. No point fitting something that looks great only to find in an emergency that the airbags do not deploy and do not protect me. in an emergency. Should I forget the whole idea, let the seat degrade and feel safe as a direct result?

                         Many thanks.

Have you studied some of the seat covers on Amazon and E Bay?

I always look at what is available, the sellers shop address is often

included,  if you see something you really like, the shop address

can sometimes be cheaper.

£35 or less in TK Maxx will get you a real sheep skin that if you want you can stitch some elastic to.

Different sizes and slightly different cuts.

They actually sit fine on many seats and stay put and no issues with airbags.

B&M or online there are RAC branded Lumber Support Cushions for £5.99 or thereabouts.

Not that firm or much support but i use one just where i need in some vehicles.  Behind the sheep skin usually is enough to keep it in place.

(They have Boot Protectors for £10. Large Rubber Boot Mats @ around £12 and various car mats.

Not as cheap as ASDA Car mats just now @ £3 & rubber ones for £3.50.)

@hetty1

From reading through the initial paragraph of your post - I surmised that you have found a good branded version of what you want that is comfortable, well-thought out (particularly with regards to the stitching that allows the airbag to work properly) and that generally you get on with.

In your position I would just shell out the £80 and call it money well spent.
