Newbie octy owner in need of help

Hi, just recently became an octy owner! A touring, 1.6L 101hp, 1999 with 160000km on the trip meter. However I already have some problems with it which I hope someone can shed some light over:

-The coolant temperature gauge does not work, simple or expensive problem?

-The car jerks between 1800 to 2300 rpm, primarily at 2nd gear (somewhat on 3d as well). The jerking become most evident when I accelerate with medium throttle, not so much when I accelerate very fast or slow. Can add that the the rpm gauge doesn

Is it ok to drive the car when the temp gauge does not work? Could I damage the engine?

Hi,

Had the temp gauge problem on a similar engined audi, it turned out to be the temp sender unit wich i seem to recall cost something like eighty pounds, although that was an audi garage. Mine was easy to tell as one day just stopped reading. I got it straight to a garage though because you don't know if it is over heating.

Don't know about the luching sorry.
