Kodiaq RS transmission durability

Featured Replies

hypothetical situation : having to rev the car quite hard to mount a 7 inch kerb, head-on, from standstill : is it likely to over-stress the transmission, or is it adequately self-protective?

relatedly, how does one find out the specific DQ variant for a particular car?

Kodiaq Vrs should have the 7 speed DQ381 which can cope with the 500nm the 237bhp diesel engine produces.:whew:

With the vRS's oversized alloy wheels and rubber band tyres I'd be avoiding all kerbs like the plague.

The Kodiaq vRS has the DQ500 DSG transmission. This is confirmed in the interview section in this vRS feature which contains links to various other technical specs.

Bumping up a 7” kerb in the manner described would obviously place a burden on the clutch and wear it accordingly, a bit like an extremely steep hill start. Personally I wouldn’t want to be doing it very often.

7 inches!

That’s a road block not a kerb.

A tyre, wheel and clutch killer for sure.

pls educate me on the technical differences between the DQ 381 and DQ 500 . how do these clutches protect themselves from excess torque demands ?

Approach  the kerb at  slight angle and have one tyre start going up before the other.

Do not drive straight onto a kerb with both tyres being stopped by it, ie head on as in the OP.

If you can not easily climb up a step like that then do not, if it is your kerb put a couple of sand bags or wedges there,

or go get yourself a proper 4x4 like a Jimny or Fiat Panda 4x4 that can do it on 15 or 16 inch wheels and tyres.

I climb up and down a 7" kerb all the time with as small as 215/40 R 17 Tyres on cars with a DSG.

PS.

Maybe not actually 7" but then i used to go fishing....

DQ500 can stand 600 Nm torque.

Rally Sweden yesterday.
