Didn’t the facelift 8p get a first Gen k04 EA888 engine? I wasn’t trying to fit EA113 injectors into it, maybe he’s referring to Gen 3 parts, I will have to clear it up when I get chance to research properly

It appears I need to do some revision 🤣 I’ll get something figured out, thanks for the info so far though 👍

Hows the revision going? :D

  • Author

Not much revision yet, I’ve bought a gearbox now though

oh and I didn’t pick the car up Saturday as the seller wanted to play games, tried to knock me down on the agreed price for the part ex, turned up to the car to find an EML on, dash playing up because of damp/bad Earth, signs of mould all over the interior, so I walked away, we exchanged a few txts and he’s now agreed to stick to the price but I accept the car with faults and tbh I was fine with that as I’ll be doing loads of work on it anyway.

I’m very annoyed though as I have now lost 2 half days at work and a decent chunk of time because he wanted to mess around and didn’t stick to his word

I’m specifically after a DSG car hence why I went for that one, I picked it up Friday just gone, quick car even at stage one

just ordered a full Bush kit for the suspension plus a few extra bits, I gave it a quick service too, it’s got a few issues, when I picked it up the bonnet cable had packed in, so I was ripping the interior apart in South Wales trying to get it open without success

The dash has the common Earth issue with it lighting up different error lights, the worst one is the oil leak on the rear main seal, it’s quite bad 🤣 but as I’m swapping the box anyway it’s not an issue, I was very busy when I got it back so no real photos as of yet, but I will update as I go along once I have the time

Ive only a few more bits to order and the hardware for the 4wd conversion is all collected, the box will go on very soon no doubt to cure this oil leak, then I’ll do the rear of the car over a weekend or two, I’ve just got to make it all work then 😬🤣

So I’m having a couple of days on the Octavia, today started off with a coolant leak, the car dropping most its coolant and me driving the car back with steam coming out the bonnet 🙈🤣

luckily I had seen this run of hose had already started to weep so bought a replacement ready to go on.

as you can see the plastic barb for the turbo return has snapped off 🤦🏻‍♂️

Brand new again 😎 and no more leaks

I’ve also been gathering more bits, so the bushes have turned up, I have bought aluminium wishbones and hubs to help lighten the weights up front

enough to keep me busy for a while there 🤣

I wanted to do the wishbones today but they hadn’t arrived and I didn’t expect any deliveries on good Friday but today they turned up so I was well chuffed, I was in a rush and was just going to replace the rear wishbone bush on the standard arms but once I got into it I just thought it would be pointless doing it twice.

I was chuffed to bits when these turned up 🤣🤣

Didn’t take many photos at this point, I replaced the rear bushes for solid S3 ones, and the ball joints where good and the front bush was fine also, although I do have replacement front arm bushes.

first time the wheels have been off on the front so had a good nose round, the arms went on quite easily

old pressed steel arms, they where different types, unsure if just a superseded part or not, but once I fitted the alloy arms the tracking was miles out

The tracking was so bad I didn’t want to do over 30mph 🤣 it’s the worst car I’ve driven 🤣 rushed round to find someone to do the alignment and Halfords managed to fit me in and now it drives spot on 👍 although it will get a proper Hunter alignment but that will be once I’ve done the conversion and have all the other bushes replaced.

I have also got a tank and prop and bits on order so nearly got all the hardware to hand now, tomorrow I’m going to my mates and will service the DSG and replace the bonnet pull and anything else I can be bothered with 🤣

I’m also booked onto donnington in early may so it will be the first track day for it, it really needs better brakes though, I got these too hot on my favourite road in a about 4 corners, I’m thinking yellow stuff pads and discs for now, eventually I’m either going full s3 set up or a 360mm up front and S3 on rear

still a lot of fettling to do to this car, she’s no looker either but I don’t mind, add to the character 🤣🤣

Things like when I picked it up the interior lights weren’t working. I pulled the front courtesy light out and was greeted with this?!? ED1A44EF-68AE-4332-98A3-FBB895FC8017.thumb.jpeg.5bf6eb62cc4f86cf620fb593512d9e92.jpeg

I’m still unsure what has happened here 🤣 but they where exposed wires just tucked above the light and the plug was missing, I have made safe and now the interior lights work I just need to replace the plug to get the front one working.

other annoying issues are the dash has the conmom earthing fault on it, and the interior lock button doesn’t work, but I’ll slowly work through them as i progress with the project 👍

So a LONG awaited update, I don’t forget about you guys in here, I have had the car round Donnington, it was so much fun, fixed the interior light after sourcing a plug, done a few bits and pieces, life has been manic since this pandemic has been going on.

New plug for the car so now I have interior lights again.

The common problem of the lock unlock button not working, all the scuzz and Coca-Cola got washed off first and then I went about soldering the pins to the plug to cure the bad contacts.

The car was so much fun at donno, I kicked it’s head in and it took every ounce of it in its stride, the leaking box survived and is still going strongish although I didn’t think it would make it 🤣 not an issue as obviously I already had a 4wd box that doesn’t leak ready for replacement 😁

I procrastinated terribly with this project and it was getting me down thinking of the lack of progress, I managed to source most the final bits of the conversion, prop, fuel tank and all the 4WD under body guards ages ago and they just sat in my lockup and then my mates in notts lockup gathering dust.

Here is how I drove from brum to notts I got quite a few looks, there is pretty much every part of the 4wd conversion in that car there 🤣

BAA7A076-E730-4B82-A789-31C344AA33D2.thumb.jpeg.7b8dcf541444a83d08e1be790df8ea8c.jpeg

But today I booked to see my mate and make a good start on the Octavia, I did his head in as we needed to finish some of his own work first and then I pestered him like an excited child to start the Octy, we went in balls deep and did probably 65-70% of the conversion today so I’m extremely chuffed, the rear subframe is all built up and on the car with diff, and the fuel tank is on, some little bits still to finesse with the build but it is back on its wheels with the majority of the 4wd system in place 😁

I started building the rear subframe a while ago, I was short of some of the bushes, but got most the arms on and bolted together, but the subframe sat like this for over 6 months.

As of today now you can see there is a sneaky driveshaft in that back hub now 😁

and there is that lovely haldex all ready to help with putting the power down 😁

I overlooked a couple of bits to my mates annoyance, so I’ve got to source a few bits and make sure i have the wiring up of it all in my head ready to do it blindfolded.

So now we have a taste of it, in two weeks time we are set to fit the box and the prop and then off for an exhaust to be made for the rear, nothing fancy as I want to keep it as a sleeper, but I’m extremely excited to see this car done now and just see how different it drives with 4wd capabilities 😁

Fantastic! Great progress. I do miss my VRS, would have definitely done a AWD conversion if I had kept it.

Will be watching this project closely!
Had wanted to do a 4x4 conversion to mine, but lack of funds, space, time and know-how put me off 😅

  • 1 month later...

This looks like such a fun project - would love to know what it drives like when it’s done 👍🏻

this is coming together nicely B)

  • Author

Thanks guys, we got the box in yesterday, really excited, there is no prop shaft bearing support mounting point on a none 4wd shell so I’m just trying to get a cut out off a donor to weld up as we speak, it drove on the 4wd DSG box so I’m well happy 😃

it’s so close now, get the prop support sorted and then the heat shields and the prop installed, custom cat back exhaust and the wiring and it’ll be fighting fit, there is a bit of tidying up to do on the rear too as it was rushed but not a lot and it will look OEM underneath which is just what I wanted 😁

as always, I’m rubbish with photos, so here is one of half a stripped engine bay ready for the box to come out 🤣

Oh and best but now is that I can clean the engine bay properly as this box doesn’t leak like the old one 😁

you can see how gopping it is inside the bell housing from the large inner seal that has gone.

It’s been a while 😳 the car has been through a lot, now running 365bhp/ftlbs on a K04and mapped at badger 5, engine bay looks less OEM to help get some power, and loose some of the newly generated heat, I’ve been to the ring in it, done a few days out, it drives absolutely spot on, it launches savage with the DSG box, and on a whole it’s been fairly faultless 😬 the grip is phenomenal in comparison, esp on exit of corners, it just puts power down with no hassle. Sorry I haven’t been very active on here, I’ve been off forums for a while now, family and life in general are half the reason, and unfortunately face book as it’s where a lot of stuff has migrated as much as I despair as forums are a brilliant place full of info and knowledge.

A bit later on I’ll try to get some pics up, it’s been a journey, I just tried to upload 25 photos but computer said no, I forgot some of the stuff I’ve been through on the way 🤣🤣

I had one a few years ago, it had K04 conversion, manual. It was so much fun to drive, had a quaife LSD to help put the power down.

I was considering a RS3 engine swap before I decided to sell it and buy a MK3 Superb.

  • Author

As promised, some photos of the journey, like finishing the k04 install in the middle of the nights after my boy was born as it was the only time i could run off to the garage 🤣

Load of other bits like having the AWD box leak fluid like the 2wd box did, finding out that it was due to a crate engine being fitted in 2014 and not having a spigot bearing installed 🤣

Which then led to the K04 install whilst I had the box off, failing mapping first time round when we couldn’t get enough fuel into the engine.

Oh and finding out just before I left to go the ring that the oil sensor had let go and was leaking oil onto the aux belt for the whole 1500 mile trip until part of the belt frayed and took the sensor wiring out 20 mins after getting off the train coming back home leaving me to bodge it to get me home, luckily it was the high pressure sensor so I had upto 2-3k before it had a fit and went into limp mode 🤣 oh don’t leave your windows open when doing doughnuts on the grass 🤣🤣 and I found out that AWD puts a lot more stress and heat on everything, I kept getting gearbox hot message on the the dash whilst going round the ring, so this got addressed.

It’s been a really good rollercoaster, and the car is where I want it now, gearbox and engine oil coolers help massively with temps when giving it beans, I had to do a battery relocation to fit the new air filter as I went quite large 🤣 when I went for my first mapping session I got told it may be struggling to breath a little, so went with the biggest filter I could fit with a custom inlet pipework for it,and the only mods I'm looking at now is probably bigger brakes over the 340mm ones I have currently, and a 3.5” track slag downpipe, then the rest is software, like map switching and hard cut limiter on launch and in neutral, these ECU’s don’t have much info out there as they aren’t overly poplar, so it involves lots of trawling and trial and error 🤣

Went out for a recent trip with friends round the Peak District, with an 8V RS3 and TTRS both running stage one maps and some hardware mods like DP’s and bits, and although I wasn’t faster I kept up well with both, which I was very suprised about, both capable drivers, the TTRS owner lives by the Peak District so is his stomping ground, I thought I was going to be trailing behind the whole day but I’m proud to say I kept with the pack, deffo didn’t sound as nice though 🤣🙌🏻

engine bay pic is of how it stands now, I do have a different take off plate for the oil cooler, so I can go back to using none modified oil filters, and the cover and turbo coolant pipes will sit like OEM again.

boot install of battery and meth kit, I’m fairly happy of how it stands, I’d like it a bit neater but it sits ok so will stay for now.

last pic is in the garage in the moddle

of the night surrounded by pure chaos 🤣🤣

yea the 5pots are still very expensive to buy, it’s a lot of money to sink into a mk2 Octavia really, although fair play to anyone who has done it 🙌🏻

the AWD conversion completely transforms how this chassis puts power down, it just doesn’t give up until all 4 wheels are loosing grip, and launch pins you into the seat really well, paired with the DSG box it doesn’t stop until you get further round the speedo.

I had the rear calipers off a Porsche, I'll try to find which ones they were.

Has the meth been mapped in? I would expecting to hit more than 365bhp with it as I was running 360bhp without.
