Cruise control dead

Featured Replies

This morning I have no cruise control. Front assist says it's active but there's no cruise control and there's no error message on the screen.

I've tried pushing the stalk forward, back, up down. No results. Car was frozen this morning but nothing exceptional. Car is only a few months old. 😞

Could it be that you accidentally switched it over from ACC to speed limit mode?

The way you’d do this is with a small button on the bottom of the ACC stalk, nearer to the “inside” of the thick part of the stalk.

If you push it, it switches between both modes. If that doesn’t fix it, it might be worth visiting a dealer or perhaps someone with VCDS/VCP to read the errors on the car.

Interesting.... I didn't even know about the speed limit mode.

No, first thing I checked. But it did come back to life after about 1,5h. At the moment it's about the same temp with some snow and it works fine. Hickup perhaps. Thank you for your replies!

The only issues I've ever had with ACC is when it's very cold and the MRR has a layer of ice/frost on it or when I'm driving in snow/sleet and again the MRR unit gets obscured.

`MRR`?

Don't know what it stands for, but I think @penguin17 is talking about the black shiny plastic piece on the front grille. The ACC sensor sits behind it as I understand it. I too have lost ACC in snow / very heavy rain (but never in fog) which makes me think it was caused by visual obscuring of the sensor.

On my MY2020 Superb the Speed limit selection is in the Cluster MFD, the button is missing from the stalk.

Only thing that i cant understand is it's function. When activated it does not hold the selected speed like classical cruise control. However i can fully plant the accelerator and car wont go past the set limit, is that it? I tried it few times and just cant wrap my head around the whole point of it, seems more than useless to have it activated and then drive around with throttle pinned to the floor. I might as well just use few more of my brain cells and just drive around without the cruise control.

That’s pretty much exactly how it’s supposed to work. You still

maintain manual control of the speed of the vehicle, but the upper limit is governed by the car.

The intention is mainly to stop you from inadvertently speeding.

If I remember correctly, the speed limit function can be overridden with a kick-down, though.

Yes, Jeff is correct. It’s the sensor on the front grille I’m referring to, Mid Range Radar.

I had cruise control and the speed limiter on my previous Fabia.  My current Octavia has cruise control only i.e. no speed limiter.  I used the speed limiter far more than I used cruise control and do miss it now.  I would have much preferred to ditch cruise control in favour of the speed limiter had I had a choice.
