My first Skoda: Octavia mk1 VAN 1.9 TDI 66kW

Featured Replies

Good evening!

I’d like to introduce myself as I just bought my first Skoda. It’s not a very common one, as it is a van edition Octavia Combi mk1, with heightened roof and no rear seats! I bought it two days ago, and have only driven 200 km / 130 miles yet, but so far so good!

It’s a solid 1.9 TDI ALH engine, which is the main reason I bought it in the first place. A quick Google search told me it’s a sturdy and reliable thing. I’m glad it is, cause the current mileage of this points to 373.000km / 233.000 miles!

It’s had one previous owner and has been serviced by the same dealer/garage since delivery in 2004 until July 2019. It’s had it’s prescribed service each year and the service book has been fully filled in.

So far I’m very happy with it! Ofcourse it’s not perfect, as the windows always open when I unlock the driver’s side door, water leaks inside the footwell and from the top of the windshield (and in the rear wheel arch, I think), and I’m thinking of upgrading the shock absorbers as I plan on towing heavy trailers and transporting goods around, but mechanically it runs and drives really really well!

Will update you guys regularly and hope to read a lot from other mk1 owners (anyone with a Van??)

Newbie myself. I have also bought  a high mileage Octavia on 178,000 miles so good luck with yours and all the best.

Loving that, just needs some Ghostbusters stickers and a roofrack full of equipment

The windows thing is probably the microswitch on the door lock. Pretty sure there's a how-to on here or a few general VAG ones on youtube.

I like the idea of a roofrack, but I’m not sure they exist for this version with the high roof! Ever seen one before?

A warm welcome to the Forum Laurens !

The standard roof rails would probably fit perfectly only requiring some rivnuts, unless of course that is a fibreglass roof panel.

brilliant.

these never made it to the UK or Irish markets.

reckom they wouldve been a major success and takem a lot of sales from Astravans...

and 233000mls on an ALH is barely run in : D

Not sure yet what the roof is made of, fibreglass or metal. Will pop by the dealer to see if they now anything about the specifics :)

Such a shame!

Glad to hear : D Changed the oil, filter and alternator belt today, and fixed the little side indicators which had their wiring chewed by a mouse (found lots of empty hazelnuts under the windscreen wipers!)
