Bell Housing MKII 2013 6Spd Octavia Scout

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I have a MKII 2013 6spd octavia scout. The cluthc recently failed and had thrown a spring into the bell housing making a small hole ~2mm (according to the mechanic). A chemical metal repair was tried but a very small leak of gearbox oil remains (~4 teaspoons vol in five weeks). New bell housing is ~£600 from a main dealer but I can't find one second hand as yet. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions on sourcing this otherwise it's another grand ontop of that already paid for the new clutch etc.

Cheers

NRC

Unfortunately I cannot help with sourcing a new bell housing but that type of failure is not uncommon and there is a long thread about it

As I have a 2012 Octavia with a 6 speed manual gearbox I am worried that I might have the same undiagnosed problem. Unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no way to inspect the clutch without removing the gearbox.

Thanks for your comments. You're so right about this. Now I've had it happen it appears to be a commonly reported failure. The expense is in removing the gear box just to check, £400 before any repairs! My car was done a very good non-main dealer  vw specialist. He's nearly as fed up as I am with the outcome!
