DPF Light - is this normal?

Featured Replies

@Cozza89 you could cut a slot in the top of each screw with a dremmel or a hacksaw blade and use a decent size flat bladed screwdriver to get them out.

alternatively you could drill the heads off and then once the sensor is off, use pliers or mole grips to get the threaded part out.

Will have a go at that tomorrow. It’s just that rusty I can’t force it in.

I may have to take the front bumper off, the bottom screw I could get to it’s just the top one I’m going to struggle with.

Going to try drill & crack the plastic of which is covering the screw, of the old map sensor with a 1.5mm bit. Swivel and do the same on the other side as I won’t be needing it anyway.

Then I can at least grip the screw and swivel it out.

@Cozza89 Have you tried cleaning the heads up a bit? a bit of digging about in there with a small driver or a scribe might allow you to get a torx bit in and at least have an attempt..

Managed to get the bottom screw off today mate. I bought a small precision driver today to get all the crap out of the head. To get to the top one off I’m going to remove the throttle hose with the annoying frigid plastic container tomorrow.

A bit late I know but...

The MAP sensor is a common fault on this engine to fail so hopefully that will fix the issue.  The 1.6tdi will NOT regenerate with any fault codes stored, I am astonished you have travelled over 1000 miles without the car going into limp mode and stopping.  I can see you have VAGDPF (although not the full version which would tell you exactly what is happening with a live feed).

For ref, i used the full version of VAGDPF and travel on the motorway all of the time.  I never get more than 460miles between regenerations, if a regeneration fails then you've got around another 200-250 miles before the car gets to a stage where it is impossible to force regenerate (eg with Vagcom) and you will need a dpf specialist to sort it out.

That is what I was initially thought, how would no regen in 1500 miles not cause it to go into limp mode? The sut accumulated has gone down - a good friend gave me some diputane and that helped a lot. MAP sensor will be sorted tomorrow and then I’m going to force a regen and fingers crossed everything will be back to normal.

Got the MAP sensor off finally the other day, new one fitted. need a new throttle hose however as the MAP sensor housing was REALLY weathered up. Took 15 minutes to get the DPF light off and for the first time in 3 months, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS! 👍🏼
