Linksys Router & Safari

Featured Replies

I connect to the WWW using a Linksys WAG54G and the Safari browser on the Apple Mac.

All is lovely.

Apart from one little problem....

Try to access the router config pages using the old internal IP...

Safari insists it can't connect to the server.

And yet every other bit of network activity works just fine.

I'm googling for all i'm worth, but the best I can find so far is "Use firefox", "download a 3 year old version of IE5" or "ditch your router and buy something else"

Surely one of our technical bods knows something that can ease my misery?

Apple Mac! Whats that:rofl:

I use a Linksys BEFSR41 with an iMac & Safari. It works fine.

I seem to recall that originally I had to use I.E. to access the config but now I can use Safari no problem. Not sure if it was a router firmware update or a Safari update that sorted it. What version of Safari are you using?

Are you trying to connect to the router via wireless? If so, try plugging in the ethernet cable & accessing that way.

"download a 3 year old version of IE5" That would be like fitting crossplies to your Passat. :P Don't do it! I'm sure your problem is fixable.

firefox??

or install bootcamp :D

I wouldnt consider using IE explorer again if i can avoid it.

Firefox is sooo much better IMO.

It's not perfect but nicer to use and last i heard it was a damn site more secure than IE.

well, I downloaded Firefox two hours ago, and stll nothing.

Using the lastest version of Safari, Firefox, I still get teh same

"can't connect to the server", regardless of whether I use Wifi or Ethernet to do it.

And there hasn't been a firmware update for my router in over 12 months.....almost as if Linksys don't support it anymore......

In the absence of any Safari-native solution, I can always restart into XP if i need to access the router. There's always a black fly in my chardonnay.

know nothing about macs so bear with me...

I assume they use a standard TCP/IP stack? can't you use telnet to access the router?

Rob...

If you have one switch off your firewall, it is probably stopping the incoming traffic from the router firmware
