Wiper care tips needed

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

My wiper blade is not cleaning the windscreen properly. It always leaves smear which gets dry though if i drive faster.  I have taken them off and gave a good look of them. Rubber looks good and hasn't come off yet.

I gave them very good clean with soap and warm water. but nothing helps.

is there any tips to get them work properly or is it time to change the wiper blades. they are original and now three years old. I remember i saw a video somewhere, a tool which cuts the top eadge of the wiper to get it work like new. does any one know about it?

At three years old I think that they are due for a change. They are not that dear if you get them online.

If you do buy new ones I would advise that you clean the windscreen thougherly before fitting them.

I have seen reviews on the "tool" that you mention and it does not get a glowing write up.

As said they’re not that expensive, I tend to change mine annually,  and certainly in all my years of driving I haven’t had a set last 3 years.

Well, I don't mind to change them, but i couldn't see any damage in them. Quality one is not that cheap..I checked the price in ecp..i can find for £10 on ebay, they are chinese product.

What's the name of that tool? If it's not soo expensive, i may give it a go.

It doesn't bring any specific item. It takes me to refurb section of ebay and once i select Skoda MKIII 2012 - 2019..it brings 0 result for the wiper blades.

I have just tried it and it works. It is a search based on the words "refurbish windscreen wiper". If you scroll down the page you can find devices to refurbish your windscreen wiper blades.

Google how long do windscreen wipers last and the consensus is 6mths- 1 year so at 3 years old they’re not owe you anything it’s time to buy new ones.

The rubber goes hard and deteriorates being exposed to sunlight and environmental pollutants, cutting a chunk off with one of these tools will achieve nothing.

Loads of wipers are cheap crap including OEM's.

You can buy wipers in £1 shops / LIDL / Bargain Shops etc that last longer than ones that cost £20.

More size choice sometimes.

People use cars differently and in different weathers, winters with wipers frozen to the glass, or sunny places where the wipers sit on the glass for days or weeks and never get used, or do a wipe before a squirt, then there are different screen washes etc.

The thing about wipers is that many or nearly all vehicles have them and that is all that there is in common globally.

I have just ordered whole wipers front set from ebay just for £11.75 now. Let see if it solves the problem.

I doubt it, a pair of wiper blades delivered for £12 won't be Bosch Aero's.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

It was not the Bosh wipers that I ordered. Well, I got them delivered this morning and fitted them. It seems they work fine, only concern is they are not as slim as the original wipers. So wondering if they will make any noise when working in the rain. My friend's car wipers (MB E-class 65plate) make annoying noise which is overheard when talking to him over the phone.

I kept the original wipers safe and wondering may be I can buy the rubber as Tilt recommended but again I need to figure out how to replace the rubbers.

Easy bud. prise end off, pull old rubber out, slide new rubber in, put end cap back on........

Less than £23 for the same blades Skoda fit in the factory. Direct fit.

The same size, completely silent, good quality, and you don't have to mess around ordering twice, replacing rubbers or buying trim tools...
