I promise this is my last EFB to AGM Question!

Featured Replies

Now then,

I've got myself a new AGM battery and intend to fit and get it programmed when and if this plague is ever over!

The current battery is EFB 59AH,

It is an Advanced Technology Power Plus 75AH, CCA780 with a 5 year warranty with a part no of 602806596144

When browsing on the Ross Tech site I see that programming requires an 10 or 11 digit part no and also a BEM one.

The problem is that this battery doesn't have a BEM no and the part no has 12 digits.

I think there is a workaround for this by altering a digit, or something, but would like ask here first hoping someone has done this.

Thank you for any advice

I think it strange that after all the toing and froing you have bought a battery without the BEM sticker.
I would get in touch with the manufacturer to see if they have suitable BEM information.

Many thanks for your input.

Is there not even a QR code thing on the battery for you to use/read?

That was the first question that asked when I was considering getting a new AGM battery to replace an EFB for an August 2015 Polo - it was a Bosch or Varta brand I was buying, and the seller, Tayna confirmed that they did come with a BEM sticker and/or QR code sticker on them - then I found out that that car used the newer system that does not require BEM data, only battery technology + battery capacity + serial number  - the serial number on that car by default from new, is 1111111111 so changing part of that even to the "replaced date" would work.

Hi, thanks,

Apparently a lot of batteries don't come with a BEM code and doing research on the internet there is a way round this by, as you say, altering one number near the centre of the existing serial no. or similar. There is QR sticker but when I read this it just came up with the serial no which is 12 digits long (that is also printed on the label!).

Anyway, doesn't look I shall be using the car in the near (or distant future!) so nothing urgent.

I know there is a way to do this and hopefully the chap I'm getting to code it will have the knowledge!

Thanks again for your informed and sensible answer, really appreciate it 🙂
