Move & Fun

Featured Replies

Howdy,

My android phone decided to have a funny 5 minutes and I now need to re install the Move & Fun app but what has happened to it? I can't find it anywhere on Playstore.

Edit - sort of found it but it says my phone isn't compatible so I can't download it. Odd as it was working fine up until now!

Installed the Up! app instead. No issues with the VW one and it appears to be better than the Skoda one!

until I tried downloading the UK map................. 😞

3 uninstalls later and at the 6/7th attempt the map has downloaded. Just need the lockdown to be lifted so I can try the VW satnav ;)

My Move and Fun app updated today, first drive out in the Citigo for 2 weeks, took a while to resync with the car and the resultant new fuel and distance computer screen is worse!  Why have they made the text smaller and more difficult to read?

Downloaded it today, as an update to the disfunctional previous version. It appears to be called 'App version 3.0'.

It just showed up for me on Google Play store, and so far it seems a big improvement. For starters, I can now type a destination on the virtual keyboard, which previously was broken, forcing me to use unusable gestures to enter addresses! I emailed tech support in Slovakia or Czech Republic about the problems and they said they'd look into it - so maybe they did!

Downloaded the UK map in a few 10s of seconds, no problem.

I'm on Android 7 on an old but good Moto G4 phone. I have not tried the iOS version on my new iPad, but probably won't bother as iOS 13 is clunky to use, compared with Android, being about 5 years behind and ridiculously restrictive if you are anything but a trivial user! That's another story though, as the iPad is not something I'd take in the car, short of going away for the weekend.

I do wish they had separated things like Mpg and coolant temp from the app, and made them text that showed say, on the radio display instead, leaving just navigation for the phone app. It's not a ton of code to do this on the radio display, given its actual capabilities and they could have used the phone app as a means of updating the radio and other firmware!

All in all, not bad at all, to be fair.....

Yep, found the new app and downloaded in seconds as did the maps. Exactly the same as the latest UP! app so deleted the VW one I'd installed.

Move & Fun, the App that Skoda just can't help fiddling with or getting right!

After a few months of working fine it suddenly decided it wouldn't open due to a lack of memory despite over 20GB being free on the phone. I ended up having to uninstall then reinstall it which just made matters worse. It will install but when you open it nothing happens apart from a fleeting glimpse of the opening screen then just nothing but a black screen. Looking at app feedback I am not alone. Why do they insist on constantly playing with it as every time without fail they **** it up!

Yep, I have emailed support - [email protected] - you could too!  I have done so before and generally I had a far more polite and engaged reply than most "support entities" in the UK who seem to pay people to just send boilerplate platitudes that a machine could do just as well for a tiny fraction of the cost.  And the subsequent version of the app did fix all my problems. For a while.

You may have seen my play store feedback....

The app was working fine for months but a new update (which I didn't even notice getting) seems to have stopped it from launching. Just when I thought they were there, they mess it up!

Yep, I've emailed them direct as well. We shall wait and see again ;)

I am at the point of giving up. Skoda UK have been relatively ok at replying to emails but all they ever say is can we have screenshots so we can pass it on to our tech guys. I've sent them a screenshot of the Citigo opening screen (that was tricky as it only appears for 2-3 seconds) and a black screen. I can't really see how the heck that is of any help to their tech guys which is probably why I've been asked to send them 3 times now!

Lucky we're not allowed to go anywhere at themoment ;)

Skoda seem to be superb at passing the buck having received the following email today:

Thank you for your continued patience.

I have received contact back from our applications team who have advised they’ve tried multiple times on multiple devices to replicate the fault you are experiencing without luck.

For this reason there is nothing more that they can do in terms of finding a resolution, they have provided a direct contact to the Move & Fun App developers and have advised you will now need to take this up with them directly.

You will need to fill in the relevant information and one of the App developer technical team will be in contact to support further, here is the link:

https://www.skoda-auto.com/other/mobile-apps-help-desk

Again, apologies that we are unable to assist you further.

Thank you for contacting ŠKODA UK Customer Services.

So Skoda UK passed it on to their apps team who can't find a problem so their solution is for me to contact the App developers direct who, judging by the email address, are the Skoda apps help desk. So if they're the helpdesk who are the apps team that have been looking into it? I've got a sneaking feeling I'll just end up back with the same time wasters.

Looks like I'll just have to continue using the VW app that works fine as does the SEAT one. Out of principle I should be using the Skoda one but I give up, too much time has been wasted.

I used to be a coder, and often found that users had a problem that was not reproducible.

But what a gift to the devs in this situation! - they have 3 apps that are essentially the same, bar the cosmetics, two versions work and (we know) one does not, so studying the differences in the builds should likely reveal the problem in the Skoda app.  It can even be something as daft as incorrect handling of text  that includes  Czech alphabetic characters (see UTF-8 coding etc etc to get a feel for why this is not always simple).

The best thing VAG could do is make the source code open source, if they don't have the skills to fix the issues....

I get the distinct impression that it may be one app with 3 slightly different versions but they don't talk to each other. I'm passed caring now, it's not my job to tell them the obvious.

And Skoda have just emailed me to complete a survey of how well their customer service did.......

version 3.3.1 is now out.

seems to work again! (for me).

All 3 versions seem to have been up-revved to 3.3.1 - I assume the underlying code is the same but the UI seem to require separate builds! This is a mad way to develop! They should have one app with selectable skins, or have the skin auto-configure by getting, for example, the VIN off the car, or by using the radio's Bluetooth burnt-in MAC address, etc!

You got my hopes up there for a moment. Uninstalled the VW version and installed the Skoda one. Not a jot of difference so put the VW one back on and all fine again. There's still something wrong with the Skoda version :(

Bummer! Sorry!

I did nothing fancy, I did not even cold-reboot (which has been helpful for other iffy apps in the past), because I expected it not to work no matter what I tried, but....

I just dragged and dropped the VW app onto "Remove", and immediately downloaded the Skoda app which burst into life. Later, I got the large European map (9+GB).

It's still working several hours later!

I was puzzling about what possible starting conditions at my end may have been different or could affect the outcome. I did happen to download the app while in the car, outside the dentist, waiting for my wife (using their public bandwidth, as I was bored, but still resisted the temptation to buy an AK-47 on the dark web, as you never know what might come in handy....), and I turned the car ignition and radio on before I started the app. Seems unlikely that might make a difference, but hey, full disclosure and all that.....
