Came across this bird of prey whilst out for a walk this evening. I only had my mobile phone with me, so apologies for the image quality.

 

Can anyone tell me what the bird is?

Could be a Red Kite. Got loads here, starting to become a pest again now that people feed them in their gardens. Some days there are a couple of dozen swooping in. They do look majestic sometimes though.

Looks like a common buzzard to me, pattern on the wings seem to match. See them quite a lot around here often circling around the nearby lake causing a ruckus with smaller birds. Often hear them before I see them.

Looks like a buzzard to me as well...   The head is too dark and brown for a red kite and they have a very distinctive forked tail, a more orange reddy colour and more yellow on the beak.

My vote for buzzard too - we seem them regularly from our back garden circling in the thermals.
