Thule XXL (previously Thule 900) on Thule Wingbar Edge Black.

Pros - not too high to load.

Cons - cannot open panoroof (even tilt) and being so close to the roof there is significant wind noise above 100 km/h.

Thule wingbars with standard mounts, not edge with Thule roofbox. Personally wanted more clearance from roof and the wider bar afforded more practicality in the width offered as I carry a Thule roofbox and two bike racks. Not as pretty as the above for sure but more practical for my needs. A little higher to load the roofbox too which is another con. Ultimately a compromise of form vs function to some extent ..

The whole idea of a roof box is to add extra capacity when needed. To look smooth, svelte and to compliment the car was not a top priority.

As much as I like Thule there are many equally capable roof box manufacturers out there now that don't rely on their name quite so much and so don't demand such a premium price.

Hapro Traxer for me, as big as they come, but I did at least go for black to match the car...

P.S. the running boards are a must for properly accessing the roof box, or anything else on the roof.

Which model of Hapro Traxer you used !!! Looks amazing

Sorry now i see it. Is 8.6. Looks great. The best

I went for the long, slim Thule Pacific 500 so that I could have other things on the roof as well.  Did buy this many years ago for my Octavia, and black was not an option then.  Would get something similar in black now if I needed to replace.

are they usable when the car doors are closed ? wish they protruded more. the doors get in the way of swinging a bike upwards

If you have small feet then yes, if you have normal feet then no, not really...

Opening a door to expose the running board also means you can get closer to the car and therefore reach even further into the roof box so it I see why Skoda have done it.

With the doors closed they look sleeker too, SUV's with fully exposed running boards don't look great (IMO)...
