My cambelt question again

Featured Replies

I posted a question ealier in the week but did not put all of the information that was needed.

My car is a 2002 Octavia 1.9 TDI and my question was if the cambelt needed to be changed at the 60 or 80 thousand miles service. Lummox asked me when it was registered as 2002 the cambelt changed. The car was registered in April 2002, can anyone confirm what the schedule should be for the cambelt change.

Thanks

Mine is an 04 car and the book interval is 80, not sure on the earlier ones.

Ask the dealer?

Mine is an 03 car and it's down to be changed at 60k miles according to more than one dealer.

If you are not sure then I'd say do it at 60k as a belt change is a lot cheaper than an engine overhaul. Better to change too early than to late and all. I think that July 2003 saw a new belt and so longer service interval from what I remember reading on the back of a service sheet.

If you are having it done then i believe that water pump and tensioner are things that should be done at the same time.

The dealer should be able to tell from the VIN number

If you want to know when it was built, look on the orange tag on the seatbelt

Mine is a 2004 TDI 130 and I have been told it's 100,000 miles.

Get it done a 60k......why wait until the "official" mileage and potentially for you to be out of warranty if it snaps.

I'm pretty certain the diesels are 60 or 80 and not 100 for any of them

Post 04 cars are 100k iirc, will double check when the date is tomorrow.

But I dont leave them any longer than 80k.

Oh cool, thats great to know :) means if i was to update to an octy II ic ould do it at 80 and consider that being careful :D

Octy 2 is different as they dont use TDi engines.

Oh the one i had as a hire car says TDi on back and has the 100PD engine.

Sorry was thinking you meant new PD engines are good for 100k on the belt.

Oh well

It is badged TDi but all Octavia 2's are PD engines, different belt and configuration.

How odd, its not even a service interval.

that was on my 2003 octavia TDI

If in doubt do it now. Regular oil changes and cam belt changes are the best insurance you can have.
