What's with the founders edition logo? Does that mean Skoda is ditching L&K logo? Because they are the founders.

  • the Enyaq looks really promising!  I gave up waiting though and bought this - for now

  • Hi,    I just have got my Enyaq, feel free to ask.

  • For you, yes, but  then why spend time and effort posting on EV threads?

Lots of actually 'Simply Clever' features.

Rather nice IMO.

Maybe no need for a 'Ice Scraper' / Glass Scratcher in the 'Electric Plug charging point flap' as you can just hear the Interior while plugged in and clear the side glass and screens, or do it with the cars energy.

Lets hope Skoda have a Fuel / Charging port on these that does not freeze closed.

Maybe they have a wee heater element to prevent this....

My interpretation was this is the founding (first) electric Skoda.

Looks nice, lots to like, many features similar to my Kodiaq and many other cars of course. Not a major department from mainstream vehicles and very nicely styled IMHO.

But that grill is going to be a bit ‘Marmite’, not for me I’m afraid, plain option please, very garish and grills have little function (battery cooling and ac / heat pump) on EVs, well not as much as an ICE so why emphasize it? Very much style over substance. You pay your money and you make your choice though.

Nice big display high up on dash but software operated heating and vent controls will put some people off, difficult to adjust on the move (lots of debate on this elsewhere (see Octavia mk4)). Binnacle small but great with heads up display (optional).

The Panoramic roof appears to be the same standard VW unit that many people enjoy (also repairing), so again not for me. Shame as they look so nice and brighten the interior.

Hope the drive is nice and quiet, and not too many rattles which will be much more obvious.

No transmission tunnel will please the rear mid seat passenger.

Good beginnings down the EV line, would be seriously tempted with the low running costs, just issues around my usage pattern and fast charging. Though things are hopefully changing from a couple of years ago, the infrastructure isn’t quite there yet for me. After retirement though, one car - low mileage - no issues.

I’ll be interested to see this section in Briskoda develop with real user reviews and early adopter issues.

But that's not true, city go was the first.

Founders edition to me doesn't sound classy as it should be as the flag trim.

First ground up electric car?

I’ll shoe horn my point in here somehow :D

Skoda press release states it is to celebrate the launch of the first purpose built EV (Citigo IV based on ICE car). There will be 1895 founders editions built IIRC, to reflect the year that Skoda was founded.

I also think this is a marketing ploy to attract Tesla wannabees, as when a new model is launched by them they always seem to have a Founders Edition.

This makes it clear, thanks. I'm waiting to see the VRS edition, I hope it will not be reserved for GT coupe version.

Not sure which video review I saw it on (Maybe Thomas’ review on Autogeful) but the ice scraper lives in a slot on the left hand side of the tailgate.

Simply clever !

Correct!

I’ve never used any of the inbuilt ice scrapers as I feel they may scratch the glass (I may be wrong)

I prefer to use tepid (not too hot) water, and never had an issue, also unfreezes door seals.

Got to say though that on the Outlander PHEV you could pre heat or cool it, but the set up of timers or wi-fi app was awful. So if they’ve implemented it well in the Skoda it’s a great thing.

IIRC the heat pump is an extra, but I would say well worth having for the power savings / longer range.

Well, things are progressing!

having registered my interest on the website, and configured a couple of cars, I had a call from Skoda this afternoon!

they just wanted to confirm my interest so I could be put on the no obligation no cost list to be contacted next month when they will have more info on finance options and a car that they will do a video tour of 😎

apparently 50 Founders Editions are destined for the UK, did ask about the list and these are being dealt with by a separate team; however as I’m not interested in Founders Edition I didn’t ask them to make contact. Although I like the idea of a pretty exclusive car, I don’t want 21 inch wheels 🙄

What do you guys think?  I think spec for spec they will be quite comparable.

I don't like the roundness of exterior.

We know that box type vehicles are most practical for interior space, like the Yeti, Soul etc, and roundness of a box will be needed to streamline cars if they are tall boxes. so i suspect VW Group did bother a bit with wind tunnels.

As long as they just give useless bling and plastic tat add on's a miss and just get on with adding lightness where they can that will help the range.

Put roof bars and bike / boat carriers or roof boxes and then put people other than a driver in the car and the range really really suffers.

The kind of things people with Crossover SUV's might actually want to do.

Anyone know if electric cars generally use more or less sound deadening materials as compared to ICE cars (i.e. adding more weight)?

Some will likely be a bit less deadening material in the pure EV lf they do the same cars with different engines like a Kia e-Niro, Plug in and self charger,

no point generalising currently as there are so many different manufacturers and models small and large and cheaper but not cheap.

Small & smaller lighter EV cars like Smart's, Zoe's, eUp /Mii/Citigo electrics, MG's, Nissan Leaf, PSA EV models are not on wide tyres and the noise you are going to hear is some tyre and some wind noise.

Usually significantly less as the main noise generator is usually tyres.  Also I understand that a number of third party suppliers are looking at rather clever noise cancelling systems to reduce even further the need for sound deadening (eg using roof linings and body panels as large 'speakers' to cancel out other noise generators)

Now this woudl seriously tempt me to switch from Tesla back to Skoda, really impressive and aggressively priced. Very nice.

Yeah, I got that, but I don't know the reason. I tend to ignore people who think they know better than me about what suits my needs 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, not fully decided on Tesla yet, Polestar is also interesting as is the Enyaq. Hopefully retiring in the not too distant future and we'll likely be driving in Europe twice a year, the Tesla charging network is hard not to ignore for that reason. All things being equal in terms of charging networks, I wouldn't choose the Tesla.

tesla is a complete lottery, you may get a good one or you may not. They will fix it but it can take time (took them 6 months to get me a new front end on mine).

And software updates.....as often as not they break somethign when fixing something else. The auto pilot and adaptive cruise are a mess right now so I have had to disable them.

Having  said that if you do buy one, personally I would not, feel free to do so using this link and it will get you 1000 free miles on their supercharger network https://ts.la/domhnall71732

Why did your Tesla need a new front end? I ask because I checked a lease price on the basic one limited to 8,000 miles per year and it was £100 per month more than my Superb although free road tax and lower fuel bills would compensate.

The M3 is quite a small car inside, the Enyaq is massive compared with about the same price tag, the issue is, do we trust VAG with this new tech that's been pushed out quickly to be honest due to pressure from Tesla M3 sales figures. and other things,  When I look at the stats for the Enyaq I'm not that impressed compared to the Tesla and to have all the same level of equipment it's not gong to be anywhere near the 33k advertised price. The heat pump is a grand.

Yes and you'll need one to reach the anything like the advertised range figures as those will be for the most efficient version of the car with the most efficient wheel/tyre combo. The wheel/tyre combo may not be available with the trim level you want. I've yet to see any figures on the effect the heat pump has on range / efficiency.

Re the newness of the tech - I must admit I am a bit concerned about this....my Superb is ...well...superb and I don’t want to move away from a great car into something that might be only 90% developed. Had enough of being a factory Beta tester when I was mug enough to keep buying JLR products.

Anyhow the Audi E Tron has been out for a bit, does anyone know how much of the important tech has been “passed down” to the Enyaq. Just thinking that maybe some of the more critical bugs might have been ironed out based on what they needed to do to the E Tron?

I very much want an Enyaq but if I do move from the Superb, and it (Enyaq) is too glitchy then I’ll never hear the last of “told you so” from SWMBO. And believe me, that’s not a place I want to be 🙄

I'm in a similar boat. I've been an early adopter in the past with phones and other things. Learnt my lesson and vowed never to buy a car in its first year. But here I am looking at the enyaq, polestar 2 and superb iv. Granted the superb is slightly better developed but it's still a newer lifestyle of plugging in. At least with a full ev you don't have to plug in everyday.
