Drivers window noise and not opening all the way

Featured Replies

Hello,

My driver's window glass has stopped fully descending into the door, leaving a bit in the way of my elbow. It also makes a faint scraping noise when going down. Does anyone know if this could be due to loose screws / bolts or is it likely to be a failing mechanism?

Also, what makes a good moisture barrier inside the door? Since a little bit of water drips out of the bottom of the door I thought I may as well kill two birds with one stone. The plastic film isn't attached very well, if I go round it all with duct tape is that likely to be an adequate solution?

Hello Will, if the top of window glass is not tilting at an unusual angle, most likely cause would be wear or distortion to the window guide channels inside the door. That will involve removing the door card panel to check, but something I have not had to do on a Skoda (so far)

Gaffer-Tape (duct tape) is useful for reattaching any  plastic lining sheet inside the doors - but you don't want to block the drains at the bottom of the door.

The grinding is probably the cable on the regulator starting to fray and making the noise through the rollers - easy to check with the door card off.

Just do it quickly, as if it is the cable, it will eventually snap, leaving the window free to drop into the door on the runners - a real pain if it is raining.

i replaced the membrane on my door with 1500gauge clear plastic, used pvc pipe jointing adhesive to stick it on.

the most important part is to make sure you have a continuous bead of whatever you use all around, particularly the bottom half.  even with duct tape, water will find the tiniest gap and an apparent torrent of water will get through.
