Front and rear dash cams interference.

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have just bought and installed the nextbase 422gw and the rear wired camera plus the hardwire kit.

I fitted the front camera and hardwire kit Thursday and had no issues. Yesterday I fitted the rear camera which was a faff. At first I thought everything was OK but this morning I noticed the dab radio losing reception which it does not do round here.

I've tried fitting a ferrite core to the cable near the rear camera but it's no different. Weirdly if the boot lid is open the radio works fine. But when the boot lid is shut I get the issues.

Does anyone have any advice or am I going to need to try and re route the cable the other side.

Thanks

Adrian.

I don't know if it's applicable in this case but when installing car audio systems - when you doesn't get a "clean" ground connection you'll get interference from the alternator, hissing sound etc, it also affects the radio reception as the signal and signalamp depends on the difference between 12V and 0. By adding a new device with bad earth you can alter the signal difference. Have you tried to move the earth connection of the rear camera to another connection?

If you've connected it to the same earth (cable harness) as the stereo uses that might cause the problem.

The rear camera don't have an earth. It plugs into the front camera via some sort of mini hdmi.

The front is earthed as I bought the nextbase hardwire kit and I've used the same earth as others have used on here. It seems to be solidly fixed in place so I assume as others have used it OK mine should in theory be the same.

I've looked at it today and found that moving the camera from the bottlid into the car brings the reception of the dab radio back and as soon as you put the camera back near the rear window it drops out again. So for now I've disconnected the camera and pulled the cable Into the car and tucked it away.

When I have time ill re run it down the drivers side. As Gizmo on here has told me the dab aerial is on the passenger side so hopefully this will help.

See this thread, did you loop up the excess cable near to the camera / DAB antenna?

The cable is gathered together and cable tied behind the passenger side c pillar trim. Do you think this may be part of the problem?

Did you wind a loop of cable round the metal do-dad? (Memory escapes me as to what they're called) I have said do-dad in the roof lining above the mirror.

No problems with my Nextbase 222GW (with a hardwire kit). All of my excess cable is looped up by the fuse box (i.e. behind the glove box).

I use the ground linked in this guide -

That where mine is grounded too. The spare cable from the hardwire kit is looped up and secured in the dash panel on the passenger side.

Do you have the spare cable from the rear one stashed up front as well?

No, I've just got the front camera. I suspect (guess really) that it's the back camera causing issues. Can you test it without?

Yes, as this is where the DAB wire runs.

If it's easily accessible try pulling it out and see if things improve?

So I have just spent an hour or so rerouting the cable to the drivers side. I took it all the way back to where it connects to the front camera then passed it along the head lining above the drivers sun visor. Then it went all the way along the roof lining through the grommet and Into the boot and the result unfortunately is pretty much the same deal. Maybe it's slightly better but not much.

It seemed fine when it was draped into the boot when I was testing it but as soon as I passed it through the grommet and into the boot proper I started having the same issue. Again if the camera is disconnected the signal is fine.

So could I look at anything else? A different earth point or maybe that's just they way it is.

I am puzzled given others have said they've done this and get no issues. But then I guess they may have different makes of camera.

Thanks

Adrian.

I've just spoken to nextbase who have said that if I'm still having trouble after running it both sides it could possibly be the camera.

After fiddling with it some more I'm wondering if it's the little gold plug that connects the power lead to the camera. It's got like a 3.5mm jack plug but a smaller version.

When I get it near the rear window that's when it starts to play up.

So I think I'll have to try another and fingers crossed it solves the issue.

Still not really found out for sure what or where the dab aerial boosters are. The chap on the phone seems to think the cable maybe too close but if its on the passenger side as some have said and I've moved the cable to the drivers side I can't see how that's now an issue.
