Engine options?

So I had settled on the 272/280 only to find that the rrp is >£40k causing it to hike up the annual tax buy £320 (or there about).

Looking online at the tax you should be paying for these car it says the standard £140 or whatever it is. If I were to go nearly new how do I know if the car was rrp'd under the magic 40k?

Edit: I really want a sportline plus 280 but don't want to pay through the nose for tax. The added fuel will be painful enough.

When I bought my used 272 last December which was a March 2019 registration I asked the dealer how much the tax was because I knew that a couple of options could take it over the £40,000 threshold new. Mine only had the spare wheel and Black Magic paint so it was just over £39,000 new so the VED for me was £145. Remember the 272 also has the 7 speed DSG which makes it more economical compared to the 280 and it's 6 speed DSG. iF YOU WANT PROOF MY CURRENT TANK HAS LASTED 35 DAYS 601 MILES AT 42.4MPG.

I didn't realise about the different g'box. Is the 6 so the 250 and the 7 I guess 381 or is is 380?

I'm basing my figures on carwow info so maybe not the most accurate? I think I need to go talk to an actual person. Not ready to buy just yet so have the time to figure it all out.

Not sure about the 280 but yes the 272 has the DQ381 same as the latest Golf R which means in 7th at 70mph you are doing 2,000rpm and I believe the 6 speed 280 does 2,300rpm at 70mph in top gear, so if driven at the same speed the 272 will always use less fuel.
