Newer higher mileage, or older lower?

Looking at buying (still), and under consideration are a super-low (sub-15k) mileage, ten year old Yeti, or a 7 year old one with 35k, otherwise identical, both diesel/manual, good condition, fsh.

Pros & Cons to either?

Cheers.

Check a 1.6 or 2.0 TDI for having had the VW Emissions fix.

Check body work for having had or still having the Zinc Inclusion issue. Any poor body / paintwork done.

I’d be very weary of the condition of the DPF on either car ! ! diesel cars in general from late  2009 ( some manufacturers even earlier ) were forced to have a DPF fitter and especially on early examples these are known to be problematic especially with low annual mileage use

chatting with a couple of mechanics ( both of shall we say older vintage ) if your annual mileage is below 20k pa petrol is the way to go

One pre f/l, one post f/l?

If that's the case the 10yr old pre f/l one in my opinion will look better, but on balance the bodywork will be more tired, suspension bushes nearer the end of their life

I would be wary of both and particularly the older one if a diesel at that mileage. The dpf will be on the way out as clogged if not replaced, as will other parts of the emission system, and if it has had the fix (almost certain) this is not good news for reliability and future emission component life.

If petrol the older one will have the timing chain that will eventually fail, the newer one may have this. Not a deal breaker if changed before it breaks for an uprated one.

The newer one should have more time before body issues become evident than the older one, and should be the facelift model. I would go newer if petrol as that mileage is still very low. Radio wiill be more up to date and if compatible will work with your phone. I had a 2010 yeti and that would not work with phone when it was replaced by work, yet when updating to a 2014 car it worked fine.

I wouldn't touch any car that had only been averaging 1500 miles a year!! And especially if it is a diesel.
It will have rarely if ever got up to full working temperature so will a repair bill waiting to happen.

Both Pre F/L, both 170 diesel.

So would I be better off looking at 50-60k on this age yeti? At what point do they get too leggy? I've set my mileage ceiling at 90k...

It's pretty much the same car as your Octavia surely, I think you should draw on that experience .

It's an engine that seems to run to really high miles with care and regular servicing but it's an older car so you'll need to check the car carefully for rust, perished rubbers etc - and AVOID a sunroof
